It's a calculator. Instead of electricity forming the constant on/off signals and gateways, it's all a physical (well electricity is physical), er, mechanical process, like in the olden days before electricity.... became utilized by humans.
So there ya go. Here's something. If a self aware intellect can be formed from programming, can the same be said of a giant series of levers and pullies? Could someone design a self aware aquaduct system? Try envisioning ALL computer programming as just this using electricity and you see why we are pretty far off from moving AI to I just yet.
