    This interface seems to be similar to what I think would go a long way in making things a lot simpler for the average user. The "desktop" isn't a folder at all, it's just an interface. Programs run on it, and that's all there is to it. No need to worry about organizing those icons, there are none. You just run your applications. The "side bar" is recognized as silly and eliminated.

    This looks promising. I'm hoping other Linux distributions make their own alteration on this theme. An interface as straightforward as I might expect from my Nintendo DS or PSP, only designed with a mouse in mind. Add in the "power user" application and it's all I need.
