    So, which is better?

Or, if you have Battlefield 1942...

Actually, read the article if you have it or not. It's very funny... :)

The question is... is it Pirate Ghosts or Ghost Pirates? Are they the ghosts of pirates or ghosts who decided to become pirates?

Zombie pirates are so much better.

For instance, does any fighting game character in history kick as much ass as Cervantes?

Ghosts of pirates, generally, Geno. :)

And Cervantes is really cool looking, but very hard to play as...

How do you know? Cerventes has never come across said root beer!

Besides that, Cerventes is NOT a zombie pirate, he's a GHOST pirate! Those are two different things! In fact, people all know about ghost pirates and ghost ships, but very rarely is the legend about ZOMBIE pirates!

Ghost pirates all the way! *boards ghost ship in Wind Waker*

He gets cooler as the series progresses. From ghost pirate to zombie ghost pirate to demon zombie ghost pirate in just three games! Now THAT takes skill!

Gotta be tough on MRS. LeChuck though...

Cervantes is SO a zombie! Haven't you read his bio? When Sophitia shattered one of the Soul Edge blades, he was consumed in flame and burned to ashes, yet the shards of Soul Edge that remained revived him. He's also got some shards lodged in his body, which allow him to combine pieces into one sword, as well as use Soul Edge without succumbing his will to it.

    ...

I think I play Soul Calibur II too much.

Sure, if you consider that a zombie... I guess... Well, he's undead for sure at any rate.

That one's better than the others.

    ... I can't help it...

MI4 LeChuck. Not as cool looking as in 3.
Disguised LeChuck, if I remember correctly...
His ship was originally a ghost ship...

The below are all from http://www.scummbar.com

    Ghost Pirate...
    Zombie Pirate.
The first box is incredibly cool looking. They don't make boxes like this anymore...
MI2 box. Very nice, but not as good as MI1...
    Decent.
    ...and the worst one.
But at least it's better than the PS2 boxart!

    And finally. :)

The graphics and art style in Curse of Monkey Island were amazingly beautiful; I don't know they thought it was necessary to go 3D, epsecially when the 3D didn't look nearly as good.

I really hope the next Monkey Island goes back to 2D, or at least get some good 3D models and please bring back the water-color backgrounds!!

You know, if you'd never played Monkey Island, you'd probably never know it's so hilarious. Nothing on any of the box arts really lends itself to humor (with the possible exception of the Guybrush voodoo doll on the MI2 box). Nonetheless, Monkey Island remains, to this day, one of the only games of that era I play over again even today.

    I played 1, 2, and 3. Should I bother with 4?

Of course. It may be the worst in the series, but like Episode 1: The Phatom Menace you still had to go see it just because it was Star Wars.

Escape was fun, I wouldn't say it's terrible in any sense. I suppose in the end I put Secret above it, easily, but Escape was still pretty fun and funny on it's own merits. I gotta say a giant robot fight was a fun way to end it, though the whole monkey kombat system was a little on the annoying side. Also, first person controls do not suit an adventure game like this well (that goes for Grim Fandango too). Point and click are what it's meant to be. In general, I found Escape fun, but Secret more fun.

Oh, and Grim really wasn't as amusing as I'd hoped... Interesting story, but when it's clearly meant to be a comedy, they could have made it funnier. Still, the puzzles were better than Escape.

Now then, if only I can get ahold of the first two...

(I wonder just how evil a villian LeChuck was when alive...)

Escape is also FULL of in-jokes. Seriously, people for who that was their first game in the series must have missed so much... but the game was just not as good as the previous ones. Not as good puzzles, not as good graphics (I'd take SoMI's few-color (16?) graphics over it most days, if the art was as good as SoMI's...), not as funny... it just didn't match up, unfortunately. A sad end to the adventure game lineup from its best devleoper. Not an abysmal game, but inferior to all of their others since Maniac Mansion, I believe. Except maybe Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade...

As for the controls, I thought that they worked better in Grim than in Escape. Don't know why, but I think so. I was annoyed at the controls in EFMI sometimes, and never really was in Grim... but Grim was so great maybe I didn't notice, while EFMI was underwhelming and I was noticing such things. :) ... Grim a comedy? We've discussed this before. I still say that it isn't. It's a cross. It's got a definitely serious story... which they added humor on top of. Some humor, but not so much that it is a laugh a minuite like Monkey Island. I wouldn't want it that way either, because it'd ruin the serious plot if it was filled with jokes... and some of the humor is serious in the game -- see being killed when dead by being 'sprouted'. Very funny idea, but not so to the characters ingame... :)
