Aside from the comedy Youtube is always host to, I've found this.

These guys have done a really good job doing a "Blair Witch done right" documentary style "investigation". They do a good job making it incredibly creepy, and so far there's no stupid fights over lost maps, which is always a plus. It also helps that the way they've set up this series is intentionally "out of order" (though they're put in ordered "sessions" so you know which way you should watch them). It's pretty interesting so far, though I've not watched the whole series.

Alright one thing that bugs me is the conspiciously absent attempts to get the authorities involved. It's still good and I'm willing to suspend disbelief for that, but it does bug me that in these sorts of things they can't ever seem to get that sort of thing worked out.

As a person who has been in somewhat similar situations I can tell you that you get a feeling of "No one will believe me/help me" and that contacting the authorities will just create more problems - that you have to take charge and focus on the issues at hand.

There is actually some tremendously awesome 'serious' stuff on youtube, we should make this the thread for it.

lazy, that's nonsense. The horror cliche of "calling the police will do no good" is stupid and untrue. All you need to do is say "someone is stalking me and I'm not sure who, but they are really tall" and you can have someone watching your back. The moment THEY see it too, you're good. Heck, the moment you see a sink filled with blood in an abandoned house, you should always call the police.

At the very least, you can find out if you were mistaken. People are poor judgers of reality at times, and calling in someone to help them figure out that maybe, just maybe, that huge light in the sky they saw rushing by the trees as they drove by the woods one night turned out to be the moon (I'm not kidding, this is a very common mistake people have made).

For that "not contacting the authorities" thing to be resolved in this series, I think their best bet is to simply make it a result of their psychological state deteriorating to the point they get too paranoid to ask for help, thinking everyone is out to get them.

I've heard about this series but I've never watched it. No time like the present!

From what I've heard, this is kind of an indie production, isn't it? Maybe they were afraid they'd have trouble finding an actor, getting the costume right, getting the set right, etc. I figured this was mostly just a couple young people futzing around with a camera, so I have no idea what the production values are like.

Yeah it seems like an indie thing. I'm not really complaining that they didn't go to the authorities. As I said it's good if you can get past that bit. I'm just saying there are ways they could have worked that into the story, namely just having the devolving minds of the characters just get too paranoid to want to go for help.
