It's not like anyone really expected one game to suddenly push systems past Nintendo's current sales, did they?
Nintendo's in charge now. I mean did the release of Ocarina of Time push N64 sales past PS1 sales, or did the release of Wind Waker or Twin Snakes push GCN sales past PS2 sales? By the same token, the release of various GTA games for the PSP didn't push it past DS sales.

With all due respect, I think that GTA IV is bigger than any of those games. I'm a little surpised with those numbers, for sure. Even if for a short amount of time, I would have thought that such a high profile game could have bolstered system sales for either the PS3 or 360 ahead of the Wii. Or at least it could have closed the gap a bit.

I don't really get why GTA is all that high profile. I figured it was "up there" but really, is it anywhere near Pokemon levels? I always thought it was more like Zelda/Mario/Final Fantasy tier.
Certainly it doesn't approach Madden levels. For reference, Madden is bought by people who don't know what the hell a final fantasy is.

You know that new Banjo 3 trailer Rare released? The one which shows the way you can edit levels with that Mario picture that they blow up?
Rare's just bitter that Banjo 3 would have sold, at minimum, 10 or 20 times better on Wii than it will on X360. :) 360 games get good hardware numbers, but Rare's market is on Wii, not 360, and that isn't going to change. Oh yeah, and it is kind of amazing that despite 2.8 million units of GTAIV sold, there was no increase in PS3/X360 sales... it's pretty obvious that Sony and Microsoft's high prices are absolutely killing them.

GTA IV above Pokemon? Probably. GTA above OoT? I dunno, maybe. A sound argument can be made that GTA is the biggest video game series of the 21st Century so far. Well, it and Halo. I don’t think it’s too far fetched to say that GTAIV is a bigger game then OoT. The fact that GTAIV broke sales records and had the biggest release in the history of videogames definitely puts it past OoT in that category. At this point, GTAIV is the biggest game ever. And also the best game ever, apparently. Anyways, I’m just surprised that the biggest game in history didn’t launch system sales of the 360 and PS3 above the Wii, like I already stated.
*Note – I don’t own GTA IV or even a 360 or PS3 for that matter. I’m not going to buy any of them.

That just includes the PS2 version of those games, the Xbox versions sold a couple million more. Ocarina of Time only sold about 7 million.

It seems that the 360 holds a edge over the PS3, Sony is now 3rd for the first time, Nintendo is king again !

Xbox360 has a better library then the PS3, The lower price difference was a deciding factor for me.
GTAIV sales are neck and neck, It wont have the effect of pushing either console ahead of the other,The only way for that to happen is if one bought exclusive rights to it. I am curious as to what Rare will make for the Xbox 360 in the future..

Hmm...if I'm not mistaken Brawl set some appalling records when it was first released. Some exorbitant sales numbers from just the first week.
