Quote:According to Computer And Video Games, Nintendo are set to unveil a sequel to it’s mech title, Custom Robo, which will be released in Europe and America aswell as in Japan. Custom Robo, which has already spawned a sequel in Japan, Custom Robo V2, has never seen light of day outside the land of the rising sun. The games, mech battling affairs with RPG elements, were highly praised by the Japanese press.

The new title is set to be LAN compatible, and that will be the title's emphasised feature. C&VG explain that the title will be showcased at E3, we will have more on this then.

I think this will be the first time a Custom Robo game has ever been released over here. Does this bode well for other Japan-only series?

I'm skeptical...I was interested based on the statues in Melee, yet I'm not a fan of games such as Mechwarrior. However if RPG elements are added, it may be worth a shot. We'll have to see what comes of this.

It's nothing like Mech Warrior. If it's anything like the 64 game, that is.

It's not really a mech game in the traditional sense it's more like an SD Virtual On.

Here's what IGN says about Custom Robo V2:

Quote:Like the original, the game asks you to master your robot's movement and weapons system so that you can compete with other kids around town. Your robot is able to run, jump and double or triple jump (depending on its stats) around a confined 3D battle area. The arenas themselves have destructible structures and plenty of moving elements like trains and floating platforms. The real draw with Custom Robo is the arsenal of awesome weapons. Your robot has a rapid fire weapon loaded on one arm, a lock-on bomb/missile weapon on the other and super destructive yet super slow shoulder mounted weapon that launches anything from robotic snakes to cockroaches to jacks. In addition to the trio of weapons each robot carries, all of the fighters will have unique physical or charge attacks where they literally try to knock enemies off their feet. All of these weapons come with infinite ammo which is exactly what keeps the action intense in this game. No need to worry about ammo box pick-ups, just aim and shoot. Of course, different weapons have different firing rates and characteristics so you can't just unleash an endless stream of bullets, rockets and bombs on your opponent.

Here are some pics of Custom Robo V2:

Ah, more topdown action than Mechwarrior.

Oh, and I don't remember a MechWarrior game on N64...

I heard an interesting theory from http://www.n-sider.com:

Quote:And of course, big unveilings to look out for are the new Nintendo project(s) that are to be showcased as well as a possible Zoonami showing. Speaking of Zoonami, I had a wild idea the other day. It’s probably naughty of me to think so, but why do I have the feeling that this GC Custom Robo is “game zero”. First of all, this game zero was supposed to be a third person shooter. Second, the game was recently rumored to have LAN capabilities. Just recently C&VG reported that Custom Robo, a third person action fighter, was to debut at E3 with a large focus on LAN play. With all this craziness of handing out franchises, it’s certainly not impossible. As I said though, I’m probably just being a very naughty boy to even think such things…

Sounds interesting, and all of the pieces kind of fit together. I'm a long-time Rare fan, so it'll be interesting to see what they come up with. E3 time is so exciting, sometimes I giggle like a little schoolgirl!

I was talking about the Custom Robo N64 game, bubba.

And why would Zoonami be making this Custom Robo game? I highly doubt that's the case.

Ah, that makes more sense... oh, and yeah, it does seem wildly unlikely that this is Project Zero.

Oh, and are those Cube or N64 shots? Confused

    N64.

The idea of making custom robots sounds interesting... I'm eager to hear more details.

Yeah, I kind of doubt that it would be Game Zero.

Custom Robo V2 got a gold from Famitsu.
