I have been playing around with Direct X9c and C++. I have created a fun little 3D mini game featuring super mario world models (created by me), and original classic mario sound effects.

Make shure you have the latest version of DirectX 9c installed before running the installer. You can download it free from Microsoft.

I hope you guys like it..

    Download the installer [Here]

I rebuilt the installer plus added the new version of my game.
The new installer includes the DirectX 9c package as part of the installation.

Also it meets Microsoft EULA requirements.
    Enjoy! - Download [Link]

I've been working on other elements of the game. I just got the Twomps, and game timer working. The droids will eventually go away.

Did you ever get the game working? I tested my program on another machine and at worked beautifully, so if it dosn't work yours I can only assume it's because your machine's 7 years old.

Tried it out. The installer took a while before the progression bar got beyond zero, but other than that it works fine... so it's an FPS? Huh. Mario FPS... I don't know... and yeah the droids don't fit, but you said you're replacing them. It's pretty cool that you're making it and it actually works though, for sure. :)

Oh, that Thwomp ("Stomper", whatever. :)) bounces up and down really, really fast... the only time it's really visible is when it's at the top (which is only for an instant after each hit), while it's moving it's just a blur. The constant UrghUrghUrghUrghUrgh sound as it repeatedly hits gets pretty annoying pretty quickly, and you can't get rid of the thing... is this a speed issue, or is it supposed to be like this?

Yea, the installer kind of hanges for a while while DirectX is being updated. But there's not much I can do about that.

My PC specs, if you forget: Pentium Core 2 Duo E66400 (2.4Ghz dual core), 2GB RAM, NVidia GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB graphics card, Creative Labs X-Fi Xtreme Gamer sound card, total of over 1TB HDD space (two 300GB drives and a 500GB drive). DVD-RW drive, 3.5" floppy drive, media cards thing in a 3.5" bay for SD, CF, etc. cards (never used it, but who knows I might someday...). Asus P5N-E SLI motherboard, 500 watt power supply I believe. Oh, and an awesome bright green case with blue lights.

I might be a computer speed issue. It's not supposed to be fast. Is it the same speed as in the video?

Not even close, it's much, much faster. There's lots of slowdown in that video, but virtually none on mine.Your computer must be pretty old for the game to run that slowly on it... you need to have the game speed-adjust (upwards at least), I think. Can't rely on all systems being similar speeds.

My computer is only a year old. But I don't have a high end 3d card is the thing. I'll rewrite the thwomp so it uses the pc clock to adjust speed. That should keep it the same speed for everyone.

And that's the difference between having a 3d card and not having one. Anyone planning on using their computer for games should consider a decent 3d card as an absolute necessity, onboard graphics chips are awful.

My computer's 2 1/2 years old now, but it's still a pretty good machine that can run anything... though the fact that PC gaming isn't what it used to be certainly helps out with that, of course. If PC games were still strong we'd have seen lots of games now that would utterly choke my computer on higher settings, but as it is Crysis is one of the only ones and that's several years old now. It's sad... :(

.... Oh yeah, how did you die? I tried standing where I thought was right under the Thwomp, but nothing happened. It's bouncing up and down too fast for it to actually hit me I guess. (Also, the game has no slowdown for me at 1280x960 with 50 droids and the Thwomp. Technically there's a moment of slowdown when I start the game or come back from a pause, but other than that nothing really.

I think I know the problem...
You may be using the old version, is the problem. Try uninstalling the game, re downloading the installer and installing the new version. I just posted a new version not five minutes ago. I think this will fix all your problems.

That issue is fixed now, thanks for your feedback ABF. I just posted a new version that constantly adjusts the thwonps for the current system speed, they should all run at the same speed now for all systems.

The thwonps should take 1/2 a second to slam down and 3 seconds to rise back up again. Do me a favor and count it off to see if my code works.

Also, I fixed the installer, so you don't have to uninstall the old version first. The installer will do it for you.

Let me know if it's better.

Yup, that fixes the Thwomp. :)

... Still haven't fixed the timer/score bug though I see, you either need lives or it should reset the game when you die I think... still, nice progress. :)
