I need help with Mario Sunshine

I know, I know. I'm probably the only person here who has Mario Sunshine and has yet to finish it. What with Starfox, Metroid, Animal Crossing, I just stopped playing after about 70 shines. I popped it in a few days ago and I remembered why I stopped playing. Level three of Pianta Village (The Goopy Inferno). I haven't EVER been able to do that, and I am vehemently against strategy guides. I only buy one after I beat a game to see if there was anything I missed. So the only thing I can think of is to ask you guys for help. So could somebody tell me what to doand how to do it to help me get through the rest of this blasted game?

Go all the way to the back of the village, you'll find a Pianta standing by a hole. He'll tell you that the Mayor goes down there a lot. Go down there and alternatively go across the hanging platforms and the tough jumps on the mushrooms, and eventually you'll make it back up top where you will find FLUDD and then your job becomes ten times easier. The Mayor is on top of a glowing yellow mushroom, and all you need to do is clean the goo off of him, and shine motherfucking get.

I thought so, I've gotten that far but I always fall off the mushrooms. Right then, I'll go do that.

Funny thing is, I have had SMS since release and you just helped me, and you've had it for like a month :D.

Don't worry, you're not the only person that owns the game and hasn't finished it.
