Ya know, part of reality is realizing that making friends is an important part of it. These "reality shows" seem to miss that completely. Then again, the entire point of watching them seems to be to watch idiots fight about inconsequential noise.

Well of course they aren't there to make friends. They're in competitions, of course the point is being competitive!

I've enjoyed a few reality shows... liked the first three seasons of Survivor (and the occasional episode of it I've watched since then), some of The Mole (the first season or two) and The Amazing Race, etc... they can be entertaining. :)

I tried to get into a few reality shows, but within a few episodes, they were no longer competing in the games and were instead just bitching and arguing with each other. I see enough teenage drama at work. I prefer the drama on my television to be... y'know... interesting, rather than just stupid.

What about Paris Hilton's BFF? Or Brody Jenner's Bromance? Making friends is the only thing that matters in those reality shows. Give them a shot. Maybe you'll change your mind.

Yes, Paris Hilton will change the way I think about reality shows forever.

I like watching Deadliest Catch, but that's about it.

I gave them a shot. I can't bare any of them beyond 5 minutes. It's just all so... stupid. I've never met anyone as horrible as these people. They're all easily angered morons who spout meaningless platitudes constantly while fighting over absolutely pointless nonsense. I dread the day I encounter someone who acts like ANY of the people I've seen walking by the TV while someone's watching this. To top it all off, as if in justification of their moronic ideals and what these idiots seem to think is important enough to fight about, there's always this melodramatic music/camera zoom combination nonsense to pump up the assumed "this is like totally really real" part of the scene. If the "reality" part of "reality show" is to be believed, reality means fighting about who left the bread out for 3 days.

ABF, I'm surprised there. What ever happened to the spirit of competition? That is, FRIENDLY rivalry? Heck Junk Yard Wars has far more mature people. They compete with each other but don't actually get MAD at the other, and celebrate the other's victory. Best part? The show doesn't go on and on and on with cut aways to "what were you feeling when this or that happened?" just to create drama where none should exist. Junk Yard Wars, it's just a game, and that's what it should be!

Reality shows are boring at their best and agitating at their worst. As DJ said, all the cast members do is bitch and argue over nothing of importance and behave like horrible wastes of oxygen. I fail to see how this constitutes as entertainment. I suppose it's an excuse not to have writers though.

And yet isn't it odd that reality shows were among the number that went on hiatus during the writer's strike? Hmm...

What, you think they're all scripted? :)

... I'm sure some are to some degree, but I do think that many of them are at least mostly real...

While I'm sure a great majority of them have writers, however limited their involvement in the show may or may not be, it doesn't take a lot of talent to write for those types of shows. "Okay, in this scene, I want you to throw a tantrum and make a complete ass of yourself for all the world to see because your team lost the last competition and you believe it's all Davis's fault for not being a team player." Even if I was offered a career to write for such shows, I wouldn't do so at the expense of my dignity (what little I may have), especially if the writers feel they're so underpaid that they deemed it necessary to go on strike.

God I love ranting about inconsequential things. :)
