Synopsis: Original Dirty Pair involves the original, duh, pursuits of Yuri and Kei, the World Welfare and Works Association's "top" agents as they travel from world to world fighting various sorts of crime and generally causing trouble for anyone that happenes to be in the area...or on the same world. One might be prone to wondering how they happen to retain their jobs given the propensity of destruction to follow in their wake, but just repeat to yourself that it's just a show and go find somewhere to.
First Glance: It's from the 80's and, as such, there are certain expectations that go along with this. Number one is that the animation is going to be nowhere the quality we currently enjoy. Number two is that there will be lots of blatantly 80's music everywhere. And number three the action is going to involve lots of explosions and bullets. Does Original Dirty Pair deliver in this regard? Yes. Yes it does.
Impression: Original Dirty Pair is an action series involving to girls, aged 19 for whatever reason, who fight crime in a future time. Plus it features all the cool things about the science fiction from the 80's. So it's really hard to find with it.
The series and movies feature equal parts comedy and action, often at the same time, which makes for very dull moments. It's spare in the way of actual character development or intruiging storylines, which might put off some who are looking for a deeper experience. While there's certainly a very large place in my heart for the series that feature the latter, there's no need to overlook the genuinely good and entertaing series/movies that just set out to keep you occupied for half and hour or so with large explosions, flying bullets, and gun-weilding 19-year-old girls who wear revealing clothes most of the time; all of which OPD does very well and in large quantities.
Conclusion: It's 80's action. If you don't expect to be intellectually stimulated on some level, you'll end up being entertained for approximately 400 minutes.
