I wish console manufacturers would all stop being greedy dicks and just use standard cable connectors, so we wouldn't have to pass the seven trials of Un-Go-Dor and wait up to four business days to get these things.

The Xbox360 premium comes with component cables.

And contrary to popular misconception (since MS doesn't directly state it), the premium DOES in fact include standard A/V. It's just that the standard video plug is built into the composite cables. Very nice that, as it works out for everyone involved. Just flip a switch on the thing and you're good to go with whatever TV you have.

Nintendo's does not, because they did not predict such a massive desire for these things. Not sure if they'll do anything in the future, but oh well. Right now, everything Wii is hard to come by. I'm not so surprised that with them not even thinking there would be such demand these things would be near impossible to find. I don't know if Sony has those HDMI cables out of the box or not, but they are readily available in stores.

Nope, composite only in the box for the PS3, both models. :)

(hey, they need to make that $250 back somehow!)

I really liked how the SNES, N64, and GC all shared a cable connector... (and PS1 and PS2, but I don't have a PS2...) it's annoying that Wii doesn't use it too. It's very, very convenient to not have to constantly switch cables just to use other systems. I've got five consoles here, it's a pain...

It is nice that, for the most part, the cables were compatible across generations, but I can see no reason, aside from profit, why the cables had to be proprietary to begin with.

The early-model PlayStations had standard RCA jacks on the back, which Sony later dropped in favor of their own cables. These things should all just use standard connections.

The original NES also has standard RCA (mono sound) outputs on the back. That didn't last long...

Oh, and old consoles that have built in RF switches can often use the same RF modifiers -- the Genesis, Master System, SNES (original model, not small one), Genesis 1 (ie not either redesign, just the first model), NES, TG-16, and others (3D0? More?) all use the same standard RF modifier. The GC and N64 can use it too if you get one of Nintendo's two-part RF Switch/modifier sets instead of a third-party one-part unit...

Older consoles like the Atari 2600 and stuff need other connectors (that give it a stronger connection than a RF switch does), and I don't know if they share cables, but I'd be a bit surprised if they did... the whole "every system has its own cables" thing seems to be a bit more recent development.

Don't assume things. I got mine two days ago, but I just didn't feel the need to brag about it because I haven't had a chance to play the Wii since then. [Image: tongue.gif]
