I've got it, but I haven't played it a whole lot yet. Basically, it's the kind of game that you need to spend a couple of hours playing before you can get down the controls, instead of something that you can just jump into and instantly be a master at.

Would I recommend it? Hard to say really, I'll need to play it a bit more before I can say one way or another.

I read these impressions on another messageboard:

"Played on at a friend's house yesterday.

When I came in, he was playing Red Steel. I was very disappointed. The game looked like it was five years old, and I'm not just talking about the graphics. On top of the poor textures and horrible models, the AI was borderline retarded. The enemies never stopped facing you once engaged, emptied entire clips in a string of shots, didn't go for cover, etc. Basically, it was like playing Doom on the lowest difficulty. Granted, I didn't actually play it, but after watching for about 20 minutes, I don't want to play it."

    And another guy said:

"been playing red steel. It's pretty cool, actually. I can see how hardcore fpsers might be frustrated by the controls, but with practice I've grown to quite like them. It feels more natural.

As for the swordfights, I'm not too sure. I like that they're there, it adds style to the game, but they're kinda boring. Maybe they will get spiced up later, I dunno, I'm pretty early in."

Hopefully they'll be able to make a sequel that isn't really rushed.

    Have they announced one already?

... Yeah, I know, it'll get one if it sells well, and it'll sell well, so there will almost certainly be a sequel...

I'm pretty sure Ubisoft said at one point that they want to make a franchise out of it.

it's not a terrible game from the roughly 1 hour i spent with it. a little bit hard to control like most reviews say. i feel like once you get the hang of the controls though it could be a lot more fun.

i dunno, i liked wii sports better.
