The latest issue of Nintendo Power offers some new juicy details regarding the DS. It says that Nintendo is to "partner" with Gamespy to provide the wireless DS network. It also has a feature from Namco, in which Baten Kaitos DS, Katamari Damacy DS, Pac & Roll, and Xenosaga DS are discussed.

More details are to come as they develop.

    Shades of Gamecube online plans?

I remember soon after the Gamecube was released Nintendo was working in deals with them to provide an online network. We all know how that turned out...

Honestly, I do think Nintendo is going online exactly as they say this time, BUT I really hope they don't use the Gamespy network... It's not exactly good.

Xenosaga DS and Katamari Damacy DS are totally games I want, if unique.

Yeah, because of how we've seen rumors about Gamespy and Nintendo before, I didn't think that was particularly big news... and we've heard of Xenosaga DS and Baten Kaitos DS before. But I at least hadn't heard of Katamari Damacy DS...

And yes, it does look more likely this time (online play). We can hope... but it's looking good.

Also, Goldeneye: Rogue Agent DS and Age of Empires II DS have been anounced... some screenshots too. They're completely different games, though, of course... AoE is now a TBS and honestly looks mediocre. But we'll see.

Katamari Damacy could make incredibly good use of the touch screen, it would almost work better than using analog sticks.

Yes it would work wonderfully. The only thing I'm worried about is compressing all of that awesome music.

If they mess up on the music, it could ruin the entire game!!

That's true, the music is definitely a part of what makes the game so great.

The somewhat under-detailed graphics should go easy on the DS hardware too, considering all that can be happening on screen at once.

Well I really don't think that's a concern. I have an MP3 player containing all the KD soundy musics, and it has a grand total of about 64 MB space on it.

That's like half the capacity of a DS card.

Compress it a bit more and it'd fit, I'm sure... after all DS doesn't have the same quality as a major console.

That's true, but still they need to keep at a high enough quality that the vocals don't sound washed out and metallic.

As do I. It's one of my favorites, up there with Penny Arcade and VG Cats.

Katamari Damacy first prototyped on Gamecube?
