I've always loved the RR series, so I think I'll be getting this (seemingly) PS1 port. Analog touch screen controls sound interesting, but can it be pulled off? I hope so. It's not the prettiest DS game, but if it's as fun as the original...

If it's as fun as the original (er, RR64 anyway...), it'd be a decent but not great racing game. :)

Never played the 64 game, but the PSX ones were among the best arcade racers. The shitty Cruisin's can't even touch RR.

I haven't played any of the RR series very much except for RR Revolution. It's a pretty fun game, but I'm sure the later ones are better.

RR Revolution isn't a real RR game. That last real RR was RRV.

Show a place where I said Cruis'n was better than Ridge Racer. Yeah, I haven't. You just assumed it from your obsession with thinking that I think that those games are fantastic or something... as I've said a billion times I just think of them as fun diversions. Not truly great racing games certainly. Not some of the best. Just fun in a brainless way for a while.

Anyway, Ridge Racer. I only rented RR64 but it was tough... took most of the rental period to get used to the weird car physics and controls. As I said in the other thread I'd place any of the good futuristic racing serieses above it (Wipeout, F-Zero, Extreme-G, Rollcage, etc), as well as car-based stuff like Rush (yes, the racing mode too)... or if you want one more, Moto Racer (the first two, not MR3).

What Ridge Racer is better than is Need for Speed. :)

No, I mean Ridge Racer Revolution on the PSX, it was a remake of the original RR.

Burnout is probably my favorite arcade racing series. I played a demo of Burnout 3 today, awesome. The mode I played on you had to cause your rivals to crash and it was hugely fun. Each crash rewarded you with a slow-motion replay that was immensely satisfying. *looks in wallet* *wallet is empty except for a piece of paper that says "Need more for Paper Mario 2, Metroid Prime 2, Baten Kaitos, Nintendo DS, ect."* :(

No, I said I don't have intrest in buying this. I'd probably get RR64 if I saw it cheap... sure, I did see it cheap several times before and not buy it, but I got other stuff (and not Cruis'n then). If I keep seeing it one of these times I'll get it because I know it's one of the many good N64 arcade racing games. As for why I got Cruis'n Exotica... needed to get one more, wanted to have one of them, and $10 wasn't much. If they'd had RR64 I'd have gotten that instead.

Rush is the best car-based series (ie not counting futuristic stuff like F-Zero)... but we are discussing this in two threads. How about we use that one? :)

You really, REALLY should buy Burnout 3. Despite some very minor flaws, it has surpassed Burnout 2 as my favorite game of this generation. Crash mode isn't as great as B2, but Road Rage mode (which you were referring to) is AWESOME!

I played that mode for about 5-10 minutes and already I want this game soo much! :D

I'll get eventually, but if I wait a few months I'll be able to pick up a used copy on the cheap somewhere.

They are very popular arcade games so you can't say that the Cruis'n games are unpopular there or something... can popular things be bad? Sure. But in the realm of arcade games a game doesn't have to be great to be popular, or even to be fun... it only has to be fun in small bursts. Cruis'n does that.

Have you ever played the arcade machine? It's quite different an experience from the home console version...

I used to play Cruisn' World quite a bit some years back, mostly the multiplayer. It was fun at time, but it's been a long while since I last played it.

Quite a few times, actually, since they're the most abundant arcade machines in my town.

It's one of the most abundant arcade machines everywhere... I can't think of a arcade worth mentioning (ie more than a game or two) I've been to in a long time without some Cruis'n machines. Which speaks to how successful the series is and clearly how much people like to play those games in the arcades... the small arcade on campus has two Exotica machines (in addition to two lightgun games, Arctic Thunder, and four pinball tables (three Midway, one Stern))

Cruis'n is fun in small doses. It doesn't hold up to lots of play like a Rush because of lack of depth, but in a race or two that won't matter... as I said, it's fun in a mindless kind of way.

It shows that arcades are dead and the only people that care about them are casuals who have bad taste in games.

It certainly shows that arcades are dead... that much I will agree with. The most common racing game in the arcades should not be nearing five years old. It doesn't say bad things about quality of course... as I said, it's the perfect arcade game in that it's simple, immediately fun, and just hard enough to keep you playing a few more times.

... Holy crap, did you just call Cruisin' "the perfect arcade game"???!?!

Son, your tastes in games... I have to tell you this-- are beyond bad. And I know people that like the crappiest of crappiest games. But you, you... words cannot describe...

    *shudders*

There are two reasons why Cruisin' cabinets are all over the place: 1) They're cheap. Ask any arcade owner and they'll tell you that. And 2) Serious gamers don't go to most arcades anymore, only casuals and non-gamers. That is why they're filled with mostly crap nowadays.

Quote:Your opinion, and certainly one I've heard other people voice as well. But not objective fact.

Yes, and it is also just my opinion that poop makes for bad detergent, but that's also the general consensus. Among non-retarded people.

Not perfect as in it's a perfect game or something, but perfect as in it's the perfect game to find in the arcades. Entertaining enough to spend some money in, hard enough that people don't keep playing on a little money, and maybe fun enough for those two minuites that you put some more money in... that is what I meant. If you want better arcade racing games sure I could list some... Hydro Thunder, Rush, Rush Alcatraz Edition, Rush 2049, Daytona USA, Ballistic, etc...

Your "point" is that you think that repeating an opinion and combining it with insults will prove that your opinion is in fact a fact (objective) instead of an opinion (subjective). It will never work with any thinking person.

That was a response to you calling Cruisin' great again. I just don't understand how any self-respecting gamer can like Cruisin'.

Eh, no that was not my point. My point was that pretty much everything is subjective, but that there are general leading opinions on most things.

Quote:That was a response to you calling Cruisin' great again. I just don't understand how any self-respecting gamer can like Cruisin'.

You ignored how I described what I meant didn't include my saying that I was using very narrow criteria in saying that, didn't you? ... yup, you did. Must I repeat again that I did not mean, and then I defined precisely how I did not mean, that I was saying that it's a great game... just that by the criteria arcades would judge games by it's a really good one. And you really can't disagree with that, no matter how much you hate the game. Remember.

1)Entertaining enough to spend some money in. (graphics/sound/etc. to draw in the audience)
2)hard enough that people don't keep playing on a little money. (this is very important! And the downfall, for instance, of Ivan Stewart's Super Off-Road... once you get good you can play for a good fifteen minuites with one quarter. Still, a classic arcade racer and one that I think is a pretty good game.)
3)maybe fun enough for those two minuites that you put some more money in. ('I almost won that race and got a free race, so let's play again!' / (for Hydro Thunder) 'Two more races and I get a free race!'/etc)

Quote:Eh, no that was not my point. My point was that pretty much everything is subjective, but that there are general leading opinions on most things.

As you love to say against some of my points, including many times in this thread, the common opinion isn't always the right ones... and that goes for both 'common popular' and whatever your "leading" opinion is.

Why are we talking about the same damn stuff in two different threads? Do you really have that big of a self-control problem?

That was a pretty half-assed attempt.

You kept it going just as much as I did so it isn't exactly all my fault...
