Legends of Localization has been a fun site I've been visiting as of late, tackling all sorts of bizarre old school translations.

Recently, Mato (the person who runs the site) has found places online full of fans of the AVGN, only they're Japanese fans. Part of me wonders exactly what Japanese translations of the AVGN they're seeing, considering that a literal translation of some of his rants would probably come across as "I'd rather eat poop, I'd rather eat poop from a butt, I'd rather eat poop and also poop" considering the nature of similes and how well they normally translate.

The bizarre thing is Mato translated the Japanese fan's comments on these AVGN videos (which Mato also takes the time to look into differences between US and Japanese versions of games the Nerd has reviewed).

Also, not only do they know of the Angry Nerd, they know of the Happy Nerd too.

Still mystified that anybody finds AVGN appealing. Oh, look at me obviously pretending to be comically enraged and slinging profanity and poop jokes in an utterly artless fashion.

That's not to say that pretend rage and boatloads of vulgarity can't be entertaining, it's just that AVGN sucks at it.

To be honest I thought the same thing at first, but I've seen a few of his later ones and that fellow's got some genuinely funny stuff these days.

    Check out Board James.

Yeah, some of his videos have way too much stupid bathroom humor in them, but I think he must genuinely like that stuff; there's no way he'd use it so often if he didn't think it was funny. I don't really, but like his videos anyway because otherwise they're usually good.

The Happy Video Game Nerd (I get a lot more long-term value out of someone hilariously PRAISING the little known GOOD games from the past, I love that guy).

These guys I graduated high school with like to do a game series called Living in 8 Bits, which lampoons old NES games. They've done a couple collaborations with Angry Video Game Nerd. They're pretty funny.

This one doesn't have AVGN but I love it.

    And this one.

Okay, this is probably the funniest the angry nerd has ever been.

Just... watch it. Don't care if you hate everything else that guy does, just watch this thing. Words... there are no words...

Yeah, definitely a great episode! Big Rigs has to be the least complete game ever published at retail, and deserves to be harshly criticized for that fact... so the review, this time, was entirely deserved. Plus, I like that he covers all three versions of the game; nicely thorough there. The only thing missing is the "sequel", Midnight Race Club; it's basically just a rehash of Big Rigs with other vehicle types (it has cars and bikes), the missing track put in (I believe all five tracks are actually different this time?), and a few more bug fixes and improvements -- there is a basic physics model now, so you can't go up hills at full speed and stop when you hit things. Apparently reverse is still broken though, so infinite speed going backwards still works! So yeah, it's not all bad. :)

Anyway though, good episode detailing the most hilariously unfinished game ever released.

The one thing he missed is how weird a three-handled trophy looks.
