It is completely impossible that the sun will microwave the earth. Roland can go sit down.

However I read years ago that earthquakes become more frequent depending on many factors but will slow down once the plates have settled. Then its smooth sailing until the plates get unhappy again. Keep in mind that the act of settling can take thousands upon thousands of years so hey, by the time Nintendo releases an HD console we'll be earthquake free.

Being realistic though, there are a few fault lines that scare the shit out of me, including the ring of fire. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_Ring_of_Fire that bad boy could basically wipe us out if it decided to get angry. But 2012, for all its awesomeness on screen failed to recognize something pretty important when you consider what happens when volcanoes, supervolcanoes and when the ocean is swallowed in to underlying magma flows and that's the atmosphere and weather.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellowstone_Caldera

That is one of about 7 I believe around the world, we have two in the united states. If one, just one, went off, we would basically enter an ice age. There would be no sun for dozens of decades. The air would be poisonous and the actual blast of the volcano would destroy the united states, mexico and canada completely. All this recent activity is a lottery, if the right circumstances hit and the plates slip dramatically enough, the super volcanoes will unleash hell and there's no way around it short of space travel.

Ultra liberals: It's being caused by global warming! We're to blame! Shame on us for driving cars!

Ultra conservatives: Global warming? That has no scientific basis in reality to support it! What's really happening is GOD IS PISSED! We let our morals go down the drainpipe and now God is punishing mankind for making a pact with the devil!

Moderates: Earthquakes are natural disasters caused by tectonic plates--

Extremists: Nobody listens to you, middle-of-the-roader!

    Moderates: :crap:
