I spent some time trying to recall the games I've played throughout my life. Needless to say, the list is extensive. I many times added and removed games from the top ten, but now I believe I have nailed down my ten favorite games of all time. I'm not even going to tie years to them.

So here they are, my ten favorite games of all time, in no particular order:

Outpost 2: Divided Destiny (PC)
Jagged Alliance 2 (PC)
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES/GBA)
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)
Super Smash Bros. Melee (GC)
The Sims (PC)
Civilization II (PC)
Final Fantasy X (PS2)
Mega Man 3 (NES)
SimCity 3000 (PC)

As you can see, I have a very diverse list of games here, spread amongst many platforms.

So there you have it.

Re-Analization:

TOP CONSOLE GAMES:

--Ocarina of Time
--Perfect Dark
--Resident Evil Remake
--GoldenEye
--Majora's Mask
--Yoshi's Island
--Quest64
--Super Mario64
--Legacy of the Wizard

Disturbing lack of GC titles there. Call me a stereotype, but my favorites have all been top-sellers.

COMPUTER:

--Cossacks (+expansions)
--Jedi Knight
--Dark Forces
--Doom
--Return to Castle Wolfenstein
--King's Quest 4
--Age of Empires I & II

What's that list? A list of which years those games were your favorite? Hmm... I don't know what mine would look like. I don't think I'd decided on a favorite game before Starcraft... and if I did I can't remember it... so all I can remember is Starcraft 1998-2002 and Warcraft III 2002+...

Yeah, it is. Good to see someone else appreciates the greatness of Maniac Mansion. I've been looking for ages to find a copy of Day of the Tentacle... I only played it once, many years ago, and I want to try again now that I have my own PC :)

http://www.lucasarts.com/companystore/wi...assics.htm

The Lucasarts Archives Adventure Collection. Only way to get a new, legal copy of the (CD version of the) game... It includes MM: DOTT, Indy and the Fate of Atlantis, and Sam and Max Hit the Road, three of the best adventure games ever... it is too bad they don't sell them all seperately (Sam & Max, Indy and the Fate of Atlantis, and several other LucasArts adventures (Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, Monkey Island 3 and 4) are all for sale by themselves, but not MM: DOTT...)

Its just too bad that LucasArts has discontinued Loom, Monkey Island 1 and 2, The Dig, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and a couple other adventures... :(

Oh, you could probably find MM: DOTT (and other old lucasarts games) floppy disk versions on "abandonware" sites ((they call themselves Abandonware but ones like those are actually Old Warez because they have some games still for sale...), but not the CD versions of those games... and the voices are great! Those games (MM: DOTT, I&FOA, X-Wing, and TIE Fighter, of the ones I have)would be so much worse with just the text boxes...

Oh, and if you ever get those games, MM: DOTT. Indy Fate, and Sam&Max all don't run in XP... the SCUMMVM emulator is needed.

http://www.scummvm.org/

The only problem? It doesn't really work with Full Throttle because it can't do the action parts. Oh well...

As for MM: DOTT itsself, I always liked Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis more... DOTT is good (and very funny) but I just liked the other one more... and more while it is better than MI4, its not as good as GF or MI3. Still, its a great game, given how Lucasarts, IMO, makes (made?) the best adventure games of anyone...

I'm sure a romsite somewhere would have the NES rom... or if you want the PC version, buy MM: DOTT if you want a legal copy. Its hidden in the game partway through... or of course you could go find it at some "abandonware" site...

I have both the NES and the PC versions of the game.

The NES version looks a bit better in my opinion, and actually has music, but the PC version has a lot of stuff Nintendo cut from their version.

Darunia, if you're still looking for the best game of the year for 1999, consider the grossly underrated, yet almost flawlessly executed Jet Force Gemini. Developed by Rare, and released on October 11, 1999, the game is a masterpiece. Not only one of the best games the Nintendo 64 has to offer, but also one of the best of all time.

Yeah, JFG was great... maybe best console game of the year, I don't remember what its top competition was... did F-Zero X come out that year? If so, that would be console game of the year...

Anyway, almost nothing can come within a mile of Planescape: Torment ... and certainly none of the other games released in 1999...

Originally, Jet Force Gemini was going to be the first of Rare's killer triple play: Jet Force Gemini, Donkey Kong 64, and Perfect Dark all in a space of three months. Perfect Dark was delayed from December to April then to May, and Donkey Kong 64, an inferior game, garnered more praise than Jet Force Gemini because of Brand recognition.

Jet Force Gemini was an AWESOME game. One of my favorites, by far. It's too bad we can no longer even hope for a sequel on a Nintendo system... but even a sequel on X-Box seems unlikely.

Shit. :(

My condolences, Sacred Jellybean. I've never played it, but it never really sparked my interest, either. I think the biggest loss EVER to Nintendo will be the series of Rare FPS...Perfect Dark 2 could've been...nay, WOULD'VE been...the best game ever, if done as well as its predecessor.

As for the best game of 1999, I still can't decide. 1989 was the PC Adaptation of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade; 1988 was the NES side-scrolling RPG masterpiece Legacy of the Wizard.

At the time when Rare was given the pink slip, were they working on any official GC titles that we've now lost...?

I very highly recommend Perfect Dark to you...I thought nothing could surpass GoldenEye, let alone on the N64, but there you go. Knocked it cold in every single way.

I feel like I've already done this... all games I've ever adored as minor deities, in more or less chronological order:

Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario World
Legend of the Mystical Ninja (aka Ganbare Goemon, apparently)
EVO In Search for Eden
Genghis Khan II: Clan of the Gray Wolf
ActRaiser
Uncharted Waters II: New Horizons
Sid Meier's Civilization/Civilization 2
Chrono Trigger
Earthbound
also have a soft spot in my heart for Starcraft

You may notice I have an aversion towards 3D-ness.

It's just me but none of those thing sound that interesting. Pokemon, YuGiOh, and the like just don't strike my fancy.

However, I'm one to talk, I enjoy watching 300 pound machines beat the crap out of each other.

To each his own, I guess.

The Yu-Gi-Oh TV show is very poorly dubbed, but I don't know if the Japanese version is any good either. I'm talking about the card game. I don't care for Pokémon either, but I find its card game somewhat fun. Yu-Gi-Oh puts it to shame though.

But I like pointless violence too. Grand Theft Auto, anyone?

I don't hate the show, I just think they could be a little less dramatic. The voice acting isn't too bad, though some characters could use different voice actors/actresses. (Weevil Underwood for example.) The show could also be a little less sappy at some points (like with Serenity talking about how she's always there for Joey etc.) But overall, I don't think it's a bad show. I like watching them duel namely because I enjoy playing the card game, so it's interesting to see what strategies the characters use to win. Yu-Gi-Oh's plot (besides the card game) is pretty good, and some of the characters are awesome, Kaiba for example. Though Yu-Gi-Oh's dubbing isn't perfect, the overall show is better than a lot of anime out there such as Pokémon and Hamtaro.

Pokemon is bad...

As for the plot in Yugioh, yeah its often kind of dumb, but hey... think of who the target audience is...

Man, Perfect Dark was so awesome. I just watched GoldenEye just now...comparing the movie to how wonderfully reproduced the game levels were...recalling great moments, like when Boris pulls out a pistol in control center, but if you kill him Natalya pouts and you fail the mission...goddamn, why doesn't anyone make a really cool, fun game like that anymore???:(
