My only question is, "Why?" I know that Lego Star Wars did well for Eidos (over 300,000 sold on GC), but that seems to be much more in the GC market than Tomb Raider... this is bound to not sell well, I'm sure... particularly coming out months after the PS2/Xbox versions (of course). Low sales resulting from releases like that are why so many third parties reduced their GC support years ago...

A GBA/DS version is less surprising, though. Game Boys have always been the dumping ground for mediocre adaptations of major-console titles, and not necessarially just ones from Nintendo's major consoles... Lego Star Wars II, which is also upcoming for GC, also seems like a much better business decision than Tomb Raider is.

(I'd link the IGN article that says that there will also be GBA and DS versions and mentions the Lego Star Wars sales, but IGN isn't working right now)

The first game was kind of fun...

The first game got good scores and was critically acclaimed, but my interest was always pretty low... I was very happy that Civilization II beat out Tomb Raider for PC Gamer's Game of the Year awards in 1996 (it was supposedly close though, though I coudn't understand why... the Tomb Raider demo didn't really make me want to play the game...)... but while the second game seems to have been okay too, from there it just got worse... we'll see if this one is an improvement I guess. And I guess it's nice to have it on the GC too... but will it be any good, and will it actually sell on GC?

This move is a major shock as eidos has completely ignored the N64 and GC, but speculation this move has caused is making people wonder if Eidos is developing for Revolution, as tomb raider was also announced for PS3.

less than a month... less than a month.....

As the IGN article noted, Eidos had pretty completely ignored the N64 and GC (but not GBC/GBA), but after Lego Star Wars sold that many units, they obviously reevaluated the market... let's see if it works out this time, I'm doubtful.

Anyway, anyone who has either a top-end PC or an Xbox 360 will want one of those versions, since they've got the best graphics...

I’ve been excitedly digging around the net to see if this was fake or not. It appears that it is actually true, which is really quite shocking. Tomb Raider Legend has been announced for the GameCube, DS and GBA.

Now, I know what you are thinking; do we need another Tomb Raider game? Well, let me tell you that I loved the first Tomb Raider. It truly was ground breaking when it came out and managed to combine Prince of Persia like gameplay and an Indiana Jones vibe that totally captured me. Many years after playing the original I dug it back up and gave it a whirl and it still held up.

However, the years haven’t been kind to Lara as each successive game got worse. And the movies certainly didn’t help. But all of that looks to have changed as the creative reins of the game were handed over to Crystal Dynamics and original Laura Croft creator Toby Gard.

Eidos has announced that the game will be available on Nintendo consoles this fall. From what I’m hearing, the company was surprised as to how well Lego Star Wars (as a side note, the second one is on its way and looks fantastic) sold on the Cube and it made them give the little console a second look. And judging from the PC demo of the game that I’ve been playing for the last hour, this is going to be great.

    Sounds good to me.

A lot of people did indeed feel that way, and Tomb Raider 1 even got second place in PC Gamer's 1996 Game of the Year awards (only just barely losing to Civilization II, which I consider a vastly superior game)... I just never got it. I tried a few of the demos, but always quit quite quickly out of boredom and a complete lack of interest...

And either way, as I said earlier, unlike Lego Star Wars I just don't see how this fits the GC market. Particularly coming months after the other versions.
