    Spore definitely headed to DS

    March 24th, 2006
Will Wright (The Sims), creator of the upcoming title Spore has sat down with the guys at AMN to have a little chat. Within the interview Mr. Wright confirmed work on a DS version of Spore. The snippet from the article reads…

On Wednesday night, AMN’s very own Ray Almeda sat down with the legendary game designer to discuss the details on Spore for handhelds. When asked whether or not Spore would be coming to the Nintendo DS and the Sony PSP, Wright replied with a “Yes… definitely.” According to Wright, Spore is intended to release for multiple handheld systems, including the Nintendo DS, Sony PSP, and several mobile-phone devices.

Spore is set to be one of the most innovative titles to come out in recent years. I will be eagerly awaiting news of the DS version’s progress.

At GDC, he mentions 'having the universe in your hands'... I've heard of people having a God complex, but not people who want to give other people a god complex. Everything in my universe will be nude, and orange flavored and entirely made of poo. Take that God! this is a game i've been reading alot about lately, awesome news.

Oh my dear sweet Jesus. Spore looks awesome, too. What about releases for consoles, though? Has there been any word on that (either now or before)?

Hopefully they won't have to downgrade it too much to get everything to fit on the DS.

Unfortunatly, there will sort of need to be a downgrade...

I'm loving the idea of Spore. However, if I'm going to get it, I think I'll go with the PC version as it seems it'll be the most complete. I have a laptop now, so I can still play it on the go, just not AS on the go.

Was Mario 64 DS less of a game than Mario 64? What about Animal crossing DS?

the entire game will be there, but while the PC version will use fully realized 3-D graphics the DS version might use sprites or 2-d backgrounds or whatever. plus the touch screen functionality acting as a mouse and the wifi connection, the only thing better would be a revolution version which, since the DS will have connectivity with it, is not far fetched (nor is a PSP to PS3 connection).

And so the modding community will have full reign with the DS game, and it'll have as much save space on there as my PC for storing all that customization?

By the way, Mario 64 DS had a horrible control interface. Animal Crossing DS was a sequal and ADDED things that the GCN game didn't have.

Aside from graphics, there's storage space for the game's own massive needs for things like all those life forms and planets you'll be forming (and all that artwork you'll be designing) and mods.

Was Sim City on the SNES less of a game than Sim City PC? Yes! I certainly hope you defined that as being "not as good a game", because if you meant to say I'm arguing it can't technically be called a game, then I would ask you to take that straw man down because that's not what I'm saying. Sim City on the DS however would likely be able to be a much better game thanks to that touch screen.

Spore however, they'll have to do a lot I'm afraid. There's the sheer scope involved and I like a fully 3D environment and the amount of data that thing's going to be saving at all times. Sorry, but you underestimate the number of cuts they are going to have to make. It'll be the lesser version in terms of gameplay as well.

    Okay...

But yeah, it probably won't be too bad. I may be underestimating the capacity of DS games, or the amount of space that can be saved to them. I still would rather have the PC version at this point though.

Technically the least I could have done was absolutely nothing.

you mean.... you mean like that? like.... what you just did? in the last..... post...

i was going to make a vague reference to a bruckheimer film, and now i'm not going to do it; would you care to guess who's fault that is? Go ahead. Guess. Go ahead, look at you. You're stupid. I bet you wont do it just to spite me, and that proves how stupid you are. Ass. it's YOU, YOU'RE the reason, yeah. it was a great one too, an awesome reference, denied by Mr. Perfect-I-Dont-Wanna-Play Jaguar who has "issues" with affection and CROSS DRESSING, but it's not like you just
