Quote:News has just reached the Cube-Europe headquarters claiming Nintendogs has been selling like mad in the first week after its release in the land of the rising sun (21 - 24 April)! During these first four days, approximately 135.000 units, erhm dogs, were sold.

Nintendogs is now officially the fastest selling Nintendo DS title in Japan to date! Nintendo's puppy simulation has beaten Super Mario 64, which sold 120.000 copies in its first week.

As an effect, Nintendo DS unit sales tripled in the same week (18 - 24 April) to a magnificant 72.000 units. During the previous week 22.000 units were sold of the dual screened unit. Expect the full Japanese charts to be posted on Cube-Europe in a couple of days.

    That's cool I guess.

Nintendogs is only the fifth game ever to get a 40 from Famitsu. For reference, the other four are Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, Soul Calibur, and Vagrant Story.

DS has a massive worldwide lead on PSP... sure, it's kind of unfair because PSP doesn't come out in Europe until September. But I don't think Nintendo is complaining... :)

The DS is still ahead in Japan by about 800,000 units.

...didn't Mr. Driller (PS2) also get a 40/40 from Famitsu?

I just googled for it, and I can't find anything. God damn, I could have sworn that ages ago, I read someone bitching on some video games forum (Nintendorks, I think) about Famitsu, and how Mr. Driller for PS2 scored a 40/40.

Oh well. Hurray! That's the 3rd Nintendo game to recieve a 40/40!

    I already have Petz :D.

Catz was quite uninteresting after a very short amount of time, and this looks no different... I'd never even consider getting this game.

I'd rather get Animal Crossing, and that's saying something... :) or even Harvest Moon...

But the difference there is those games are ARSOME!

This game doesn't even HAVE cats in it. The Petz series (which seems IDENTICAL to this game, at least the latest in the series does, right down to the very realistic look of the animals) at least has cat and dog interaction.

Considering I only own Petz due to sheer generosity, and I already HAVE a cat, a real one, I really don't want to get this. Seriously, a perfect simulation of something I can frickin' do FAR better in real life with EASE? No thanks... My real cat has all the fun and joy of the virtual one, except it's actually self-aware. The only advantage here is not needing to "walk" the animal.

This will help Nintendogs sales I'm sure. But I should mention that those in the know don't take Famitsu's reviews seriously at all. They're a joke. A games review is often dependent on how much money said company is spending on advertising in the magazine. I've even heard they sometimes don't even play the games they review.

But do you have any proof of this? That is to say, what do you know that we don't?!

I'll only add that, Japan or America, I don't pay attention to reviews.

169,000 units sold in week one. And DS sales ended up at four times more than the previous week... evidently, a lot of people like pet-animal sims...

They're great for news but the reviews aren't taken seriously. That's what the folks in Japan say anyhow.
