They bought the Army Men franchise...

Quote:TheDeal has revealed more information on the recently completed auction of bankrupt 3DO's assests. The site reports that JoWood Productions Software got a hold of the Jacked Asset Group for $90,000, while Crave Entertainment snatched up the Army Men Asset Group for $750,000.

Also, 3DO CEO Trip Hawkins himself won a pair of bids—paying $200,000 for a backlist of pre-2001 titles, which included Jonny Moseley Mad Trix, and also acquiring 3DO’s internet patent, described as a business concept revolving around the trade of virtual products, for $205,000.

Patent Purchase Manager LLC also purchased a variety of development tools and IP for $75,000.

The Deal reports 3DO raised a total $4.6 million from the auction.

Just win it looked like the Army Men franchise was going to be buried forever Crave had to step in and buy it. Yay more Army Men games! Rolleyes

3DO assest put up for auction, Crave does the unthinkable... - Great Rumbler - 20th August 2003

Exactly! It's Army Men!! People don't want anymore Army Men games! They aren't going to sell! They're probably the reason 3DO went bankrupt!!

That and because Trip Hawkins is a dork.

No, people don't want more army men games...they want more TOMB RAIDER GAMES! Wheee!

I mean come on.

"Ok, this franchise hasn't sold a single copy since the release of it's first game X years ago, and it's a franchise created by a doomed company that hasn't made any good games...EVER! I think it would be a wise decision to buy this franchise from them, sir...I see A LOT of potential!"

This is their plan on how they're going to go about making the franchise sell good.

Army men franchise:

1. Buy franchise
2. ...
3. ...
4. Profit!

That's probably what they really were thinking.

Crave... FINALLY we will get some good Army Men games from a proven developer!

... Erm ...

Okay, I predict they get worse. In recent times the Army Men games (the few they made) seemed to be mostly improving... but Crave is a worse developer than 3DO was so I expect nothing from them. Oh well.

So... the big question remains: What about NWC??????

I was hoping there was no such thing as "worse".

Army Men RTS was pretty good, and it was made last year.

Also, when 3D0 died they were improving quality somewhat and had greatly cut back the number of Army Men games... note how they haven't made many recently?

It's a case of too little too late.

True. "Too little, too late" is why 3D0 went under at a time they were finally trying to improve their quality...
