Alleged "Dead Phoenix" now confirmed to be "dead'. - Great Rumbler - 12th August 2003

Quote:According to GameSpot, Capcom has confirmed that the anticipated 3D shooter, Dead Phoenix, for the Nintendo GameCube is no longer in production and has therefore been cancelled. This news comes merely a day after Dead Phoenix was removed from Capcom's official site. Though disappointing, the announcement was also expected, since the rapid action shooter was blatantly missing from this year's Eletronic Entertainment Expo. When questioned about its absence, Capcom reps merely stated that there was nothing new to view from this title in its current form. Unfortunately the truth has been revealed. This comes as particularly painful news to those Nintendo fans hoping Dead Phoenix might have been altered to finally celebrate the long-awaited return of Kid Icarus. The transformation seemed likely considering the similarities between Kid Icarus and Dead Phoenix, as well as Nintendo's eager stance towards developer collaborations.

I was really looking forward to Dead Phoenix, it looked like a cool game.

There's still hope. They cancelled Dead Phoenix, but perhaps that just means that it turned into Kid Icarus. Hey it would be perfect, especially with the name "phoenix". The game dies in its current form and then is reborn from the ashes and becomes Kid Icarus! It sounds almost too perfect...

and probably is, but I can hope, right?

If it sounds too good to be true, it IS too good to be true.

Its dead. Too bad, I thought it looked great... :(

Of those 5 Capcom games that were all announced at the same time, Dead Phoenix was the one I was wanting the most. :(

personally, i wanted killer 7 the most, followed by viewtiful joe...and apparently, those two are still going strong...with joe already released in japan. unfortunately, dead pheonix was my 3rd most anticipated of the 5, and it's sad to see them drop it.

And PN03 has been getting some pretty mediocre reviews, so that's a real shame.

Yeah, it looks like it's going to turn out to be a really average game.

I can't wait for Viewtiful Joe, that's the one I've been wanting the most.

I've played the P.N.03 store demo... its fun! Sure, I'm sure its repetitive, and yeah, I have heard the environments aren't too varied... but those aren't major problems. Remember, its a simple blasting game... it doesn't NEED those things! Sure the reviews aren't that great, but it looks fun... maybe not a A game, but fun.

But it definitely stinks that Dead Phoenix got canned. It looked so good... :(
