Black SP finally here - Dark Jaguar - 9th June 2003

http://pocket.ign.com/articles/423/423125p1.html

But more than that, a new metallic red color. I have to say, of all the colors so far, my new fave is metallic red. That just looks cool.

Black SP finally here - EdenMaster - 9th June 2003

I saw that too, that red one looks positively delicious. Makes me almost sorry I bought my Cobalt one.

Black SP finally here - Dark Jaguar - 9th June 2003

Gun metal is also a great looking one (like it better than black, but less than silver), but wow, this "flame" one just looks... well delicious, like you said.

Black SP finally here - OB1 - 9th June 2003

Damn that red one looks awesome.

Black SP finally here - Dark Jaguar - 9th June 2003

Had to attach the large one for those too lazy to check for themselves, because you lazy people just GOT to see how great this thing looks!

Black SP finally here - big guy - 10th June 2003

wow, i'm glad you attached it, since i never would have seen it otherwise, being that i'm lazy.

it's a cool color, but i don't know if i like it more than cobalt.

Black SP finally here - Dark Lord Neo - 12th June 2003

If I ever get one i"m getting black.
To many of the platinums have been scratched and such and the new metallic colour will probably have the same problem

Black SP finally here - A Black Falcon - 12th June 2003

If I got a GBA it'd probably be a standard one because they're $30 cheaper... but that won't happen that soon. Or maybe a used one... I don't know. I've never got used hardware... Maybe I'll just get the GB Player. That's just $50. :)

Of course for the Player the fact that it is very useful for the 35 GB/GBC games I already have, and not for just new games I don't have yet, is a important thing too. :)

Black SP finally here - OB1 - 12th June 2003

Trust me ABF, the $30 is definitely worth it. The light is absolutely essential, especially if you plan on playing any first-generation GBA games, regular Gameboy games, or GBC games.

Black SP finally here - A Black Falcon - 12th June 2003

I used the normal GBA some... it seems fine, unless you play in dark rooms or something...

Admittedly, I have found my GB Worm Light useful, sometimes. Not very often (I don't play it much in the dark) but once in a while its nice... not $30 nice, though.

Black SP finally here - Dark Jaguar - 13th June 2003

ABF, you should know that the GBA/SP can play all GB and GBC games, so yes it would also be useful for what you already have.

As far as the scratching thing, what's this problem now? To be honest the new red color seems a lot closer to the blue than the platinum as far as the coating it seems. In any case, I've only scratched my silver one once, when I dropped it directly onto a hard floor and it hit a corner. That happens more often than you think with me, because I am a butter fingers. Never EVER throw something to me thinking I will catch it. It WILL hit the floor. Of course, I won't feel guilty about it. It's the thrower's responsibility for whatever happens to something once it's left their hands.

Black SP finally here - OB1 - 13th June 2003

ABF, you can go ahead and throw away my advice (which comes from years of GBA playing), or you can seriously consider it. The worm light isn't going to cut it. The only decent GBA peripheral lighting device is the Flood Light, and it's a heavy beast that sucks up batteries. Oh that's another good point. You'll quickly make back that $30 from battery costs alone if you get an SP. The GBA SP comes with a rechargable battery which really does save you a lot of money.

Black SP finally here - Dark Jaguar - 13th June 2003

Because, when you buy an SP, you aren't just buying a game system, you are buying peace of mind! *is shot repeatedly*

Black SP finally here - A Black Falcon - 13th June 2003

Lighting I just don't really see as a big problem. Sure, its dim... dimmer than the GBC because of size. I know. But when you're under a light (I usually play gameboy indoors -- where there are these things called "lights"... I really only need the worm light for playing in the dark (which generally means car trips).

Or for a flashlight if I can't find one. :)

Oh, my cousin has a GBA Worm Light along with his GBA... it admittedly seems a bit worse than the GBC Worm Light (because its got more screen to cover) but it seems adaquate for the small amount of use it'd get...

Batteries of course is a good point, you would save money over time with a rechargable battery. I used to have one for my GB... the official Nintendo rechargable battery pack / wall connection thing (so you could use it as a way to play GB via a power outlet or on its own if the battery pack was charged). Used it a lot until it lost its ability to be recharged...

I'll probably just end up with the Player for now, though. Unless I see a used one fairly cheap or something...

Black SP finally here - OB1 - 13th June 2003

Unless you plan on sitting under a halogen lightbulb or the sun all of the time, you are going to need a good light. And lights suck batteries, so you really would save lots of money by getting an SP.

Black SP finally here - A Black Falcon - 13th June 2003

*sigh*

Why would it require dramatically more lighting than the GBC or GB? I have both and have only ever used my wormlight when in a place with no available lighting -- ie the car, generally. Sure, the screen is larger and as a result a bit darker. But why would it be so dramatically different that suddenly lightbulbs don't light it up? Confused

But that's just me, and I mostly play my GBC indoors, where there are "lights" in the "celing" or on "tables". :)

Black SP finally here - Dark Jaguar - 13th June 2003

Just so you know, the size of the screen has no effect on it's brightness. In fact, the area of a non-widescreened GB or GBC game when played is the SAME size as a GBC screen (which is smaller than a GB or GBPocket screen I might add, but not by much, and the sharpness certainly makes up for that).

The real cause of the dimness is the fact that the screen is simply badly designed compaired to the GBC screen. For some reason it just doesn't reflect light that well unless you have a lot, then the protective screen over the main screen reflects too well. That's the flaw. It's not really "a bit" either. Trust me, it's pretty dramatic, because the screen is made differently, nothing to do with size at all.

Black SP finally here - A Black Falcon - 13th June 2003

Well, I HAVE used a standard GBA... I played Advance Wars. It seemed okay...

Black SP finally here - Dark Jaguar - 13th June 2003

Inside under a normal light, or on the go where you had to use a wormlight?

Black SP finally here - OB1 - 13th June 2003

The GBA screen is much darker than the GBC screen.

ABF, so ahead and buy the regular system. You'll feel very stupid about it a few weeks after your purchase and I'll just be laughing here saying "I told you so!".

Black SP finally here - A Black Falcon - 13th June 2003

Its not like I'll be getting it soon anyway...

Black SP finally here - OB1 - 13th June 2003

Just get the GB Player.

Black SP finally here - Dark Jaguar - 13th June 2003

Heheh, what he was going to do anyway :D.

Black SP finally here - A Black Falcon - 13th June 2003

Yup. :)

Black SP finally here - OB1 - 13th June 2003

Yeah well he's never gonna admit that I'm right about the GBA so I might as well quit. Even when he knows nothing about a subject he still refuses to admit defeat. :bang:

Black SP finally here - Dark Jaguar - 13th June 2003

*points and laughs at the very soul of the endless arguing of OB1 and ABF*

Nothing personal.

Black SP finally here - OB1 - 14th June 2003

It's just sad, DJ. He knows very little about the GBA yet refuses to listen to other, more experienced people. He's the most stubborn person in the world. I mean at least I can admit when I don't know too much about a particular subject (like certain political debates and all of that sports stuff), but ABF will argue his mouth off on something that he knows nothing about. It's extremely tiresome.

Black SP finally here - A Black Falcon - 14th June 2003

You act like I've never used a GBA. I have. Mostly Advance Wars, but also some of Ogre Battle and Zelda - LttP.

Black SP finally here - OB1 - 14th June 2003

You just said that you only used it a few times. You didn't even know that the GBA screen is darker than the GBC one.

Black SP finally here - A Black Falcon - 14th June 2003

It wasn't in the ligghting conditions I used it in.

Black SP finally here - OB1 - 14th June 2003

Well are you always going to be playing under the sun or bright lightbulbs? And the battery issue alone should convice you to get an SP.

Black SP finally here - A Black Falcon - 14th June 2003

Yes, it was under the sun or lightbulbs... as I'd expect...

Black SP finally here - OB1 - 14th June 2003

:hammer:

Black SP finally here - A Black Falcon - 14th June 2003

What? Where is it that you play GB that its dark?

Black SP finally here - OB1 - 14th June 2003

Just about everwhere.

Black SP finally here - A Black Falcon - 14th June 2003

Maybe I'm just weird in playing gameboy in the house under lights or something... :)

Black SP finally here - OB1 - 14th June 2003

Well I guess it would fine for you since you never leave your house, but for us normal people that like to use portable systems outside our homes, a good light is essential.

Black SP finally here - A Black Falcon - 14th June 2003

Outside, outside... where's that? :D
