Isn't it interesting how slang works? Sometimes a new word, or a new meaning for an old word, just appears out of seemingly nowhere. One day everything is as it was, the next everyone is saying that word as if it's always been around.
That is my experience recently with the word in the thread title, "mid". Since when did mid get re-defined to mean "something mediocre at best but probably kind of bad"? I don't think I'd seen it until the last few weeks at most. It's kind of interesting.

I don't know... I don't keep up with slang. Do the kids still say "beast"? Do teachers still try to use outdated slang from the 90's that is so old at this point that it surely confuses kids?

Everyone in my circle is younger than I am, by anywhere from 4-15 years, so I'm usually good. 'Mid', in particular, I also took from 'middling', which doesn't really alter the meaning (which is to say, something is average or mediocre, and you were probably expecting better).
I even really like some of it. I love to yeet things, there isn't another word that fully encompasses the sheer joy of yeeting, or watching something being yeeted.

I find "yeet" somehow.... ugly, internet ugly! Just my own tastes, like the word "blog" being such an ugly word. I'm not even FULLY sure what "yeet" means. Throw right? I mean, throw is just as short a word.
Do they still say "beast"?

To yeet is to throw or to be ejected, suddenly, with great force and possibly enthusiasm. It's like one of those ultra specific German words that has 68 letters, and describes an extremely specific thing.

I'm quite partial to "defenestrate" myself, which means specifically to throw something through a window, from inside to outside.

Kind of like “hoo-rah” in the military, which I was told can mean anything and everything, except the word “no”. Or “jawn” in Philly, which can be used as a replacement for any noun, and whatever word it substitutes is inferred by context (e.g. “hey hand me that metal jawn over there”). Apparently a mid NY slang is “hoosit”, abbreviated from “whatsitwhosit” used when you are trying to think of a word but are coming up short. “When’s that hoosit again?” or “take it off and show me your hoosit baby,” which is particularly unsexy and will invariably result in them panties coming up might quickly. Also I keep seeing "smh" at the end of things now. I have no idea what "smehing" is but I have to assume it's like a shrug for even lazier people.
What happened to all the cool sounding slang we were supposed to get? Do ya Billy? I don't shiv!

I genuinely to this day have no idea how to process that. Somewhere at the far end of impressive stupid and impressive smarts lies that bug.
Also you could drag the "my computer" icon into the recycle bin and windows would refuse to boot ever again.

Having used just about every version of Windows since 3.1 back in the day, I think those may be jokes. The system wouldn't let you delete the recycle bin, but you could hide it. The "My Computer" icon could be hidden but you couldn't destroy the boot process by deleting it. It wasn't really "there" as a distinct file in the first place. Don't misunderstand though. Windows back then was VERY fragile and easy to break in many many ways, mostly driver related.
