This guy... this guy! He's brutally honest, and he's revealed things I had NO idea about. I knew already that special interest groups ran Washington. I didn't know the specific mechanism behind it. It has less to do with donations to campaigns, and more to do with just what the money left over from those campaigns gets spent on after they already won their seat. It explains so much about why representatives worry so much about cash when they're not only already in office but don't seem to want to stay in office after their term.
Committee appointments are purchased, and the price of those seats is in the millions. That money comes from donations from special interest groups.
I don't know how else to say it. This is both very enlightening and DEEPLY depressing. This is how our system works, and we have little chance of changing it. We'd have to convince a super majority to pass very distinct laws abolishing special interest donations AND changing congressional rules regarding committees so money can't be involved in the process. The veil got peeled back, and now we see beyond. What exactly do we do now knowing just how systemic the corruption actually is?
