The most random question of the year... - Darunia - 2nd July 2020

...I have been playing old PC games with my sons, and I told them how I used to make my own 3D levels with a program called Jed. Tons of fun. Fast forward to 2020, and I can't make the program load. It tells me, D3DRM.DLL is missing. I did looking on YouTube and Google and I kind of know what that means but I am VERY bad at this kind of thing, and I am hoping that one of you can tell me--

How can I resolve this problem so I can use Jed to make levels again with my sons?

If you are able to help me, please break it down into simple instructions!

As compensation, I will pay you 500 rupees.

Its a core component of microsofts graphics and gaming system. The DLL has been renamed as of the newer version. Your system I am sure is fine. I wouldn't advise you downgrade directX as that will most likely ablertate everying modern windows. You could try and register the DLL but it will most likely not work without all the oder legacy bits.

Your best but is to make a virtual machine and install windows 7 on it. Or you couldn't possibly try compatability mode. https://www.groovypost.com/howto/run-old-software-windows-10-compatibility-mode/
Set the desired mode to window 7.

This is a long shot but that may be a quick fix. Otherwise you will need to spin up a virtual machine I think.

On related note, if you want to work in a modern system, both unreal and unity are free 100%. The learning curve is quite high, but there are a great wealth of tutorials and free assets and project templates to get you started out there, it could be a fun thing you do together along the same subject and would involve skills that are in demand for this era.
