This video makes a good point. Those silver bells seem to be in just about every winter song these days.
I'll note that I loved a lot of wintery tunes pre-bell, such as the ice cave theme from Donkey Kong Country, or the winter theme from Secret of Mana.

I'm pretty sure the point is that one instrument is overused, and more creativity instead of relying on this one note would be welcome.
