I'm going to New York City!! - Great Rumbler - 22nd May 2003

My school is sponsoring [and paying for!!] a trip for all the Gifted and Talented students to go New York City! I'm really excited about this trip, becuase it's the kind that happens once in a life time.

We leave early June 3rd and we'll be back the night of June 5th. Not a long trip, but still.

We'll be visiting most of the major landmarks: Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, 5th Avenue, Times Square, Central Park, Ground Zero, ect.

I can't wait!

In New York City proper the only place I've been is the Natural History muesum... I've also been to the Statue of Liberty, but you get to that from New Jersey. And I've driven through on the highway several times... though usually we go by the Verrazano Narrows bridge, and you don't get a good view of New York City from there. Oh well... I don't care.

Boston's nicer anyway. :p

I'm going to New York City!! - Dark Jaguar - 22nd May 2003

Go to the Crystler building (I think that's how it's spelled) and try to walk up all 77 floors, to the TRUE evil of the game!

Considering that we're flying from Dallas to Newark, I kind of doubt it. :)

We'll be there with a tour group so we should be okay, but just in case I'm gonna pack my 9. :woo:

Why, you can never drive or fly to New York once out of school?

You never know.

I'm going to New York City!! - Fittisize - 22nd May 2003

I wouldn't want to go to New York...maybe Montreal or a SARS-free Toronto. Or Seattle. That's a city I wanna see.

I'm going to New York City!! - A Black Falcon - 22nd May 2003

In Canada, I've been to Montreal, Toronto, Quebec City, and Ottawa...

In Toronto, the view from up in the CN tower is quite impressive.

I'm going to New York City!! - Laser Link - 22nd May 2003

I was gonna say something about the gifted and talented line too, but wanted to leave it for someone else. We all think too much alike. :D

The Space Needle is pretty cool. And the old King Dome was a sight as well. Too bad it's gone. Soon they all will be. I almost cry every time I drive up I-25 through Denver and see the big parking lot next to the shiny new stadium...

Yeah, that was really cool. I was in Toronto this past Summer and got a few cool pictures of Sky Dome from the CN Tower. Nice city. Of course, I think Chicago is the best city I've been to, but I'm pretty biased.

I'm going to New York City!! - A Black Falcon - 22nd May 2003

Haven't been to Chicago...

And isn't everyone biased? Me too for sure... if I had to choose a major city as a favorite I doubt it'd be a hard guess to guess which one. :)

I'm going to New York City!! - Darunia - 23rd May 2003

We went to New York at the end of our great 8th grade year...it wasn't that great, but it was a nice thing. Worthy of a once-in-a-lifetime pilgrimage, anyway. Have fun, and send me a postcard.

Well, when maybe not once in a lifetime, but when you live in Oklahoma you don't just "drop-by" New York City that often.

I'm going to New York City!! - A Black Falcon - 23rd May 2003

You could drop by Tulsa or Oklahoma City, but for some reason those just don't have the same allure...

I'm going to New York City!! - Fittisize - 23rd May 2003

Of all the large cities I've been too, I would have to say that Edmonton is the nicest. I haven't been on the east coast at all, but many on the west. Edmonton's an awesome city. And Denver is pretty nice, too. But the two absolute nicest, most beatiful cities I have ever been too? (even though they aren't that large) Banff and Jasper, two tourist towns in the Rockies. Suuch nice places.

I'm going to New York City!! - Great Rumbler - 23rd May 2003

Of the major cities that I've been to Memphis is probably my favorite. It was a pretty nice place. There was a tram that went across the river to a musuem and they also have a big, shiny pyramid! San Antonio is an okay place to go too; they have the Alamo, the river walk, and several other interesting locals.

I'm going to New York City!! - lazyfatbum - 23rd May 2003

Gifted and talented... I wouldn't go around proclaiming that if I were you. It makes you sound like a porno star that can read.

I'm going to New York City!! - A Black Falcon - 23rd May 2003

Denver I've been to... it was okay but there was a LOT of smog, and I don't enjoy thunderstorms every afternoon...

My favorite's Boston.

I'm going to New York City!! - Laser Link - 23rd May 2003

I've always wanted to visit Banff! It looks so great up there! Fittisize, how do you pronounce Calgary? I've always called it like CAL-guh-ree, and that's how I've heard it everywhere. But when we were in Canada a few years ago we met some people form there who said it is pronounced like the name Gary. So what is it?

I'm not a big fan of Denver either ABF. It's better than LA, but that's not saying a lot. The Springs is much nicer, and I guess Fart Collins is too, if you don't mind the smell (gotta give OB1 a hard time, ya know). San Diego is a nice place. It's much cleaner and nicer than any other city that big that I've been too, and it's a great area too. Still I would rather live in a small town like Post Falls or Coeur d' Alene Idaho that is close enough to a bigger place so you have everything you need but you don't feel like you live in a city.

But best of all would be if they would just develop some teleportation devices. That would be sweet.

I'm going to New York City!! - A Black Falcon - 23rd May 2003

I don't know if I was in any other cities in Colorado... I don't remember any others, anyway.

Oh, and the best part of Denver is the airport... its got a really cool roof!

On the West Coast the only city I've been to is San Francisco.

And I haven't been there since probably 1989.

As for the south... I haven't been south of Virginia and east of, oh I dont know... Nebraska? Kansas? since I was, oh, two years old... so I don't exactly remember the south below Virginia. :)

Oh, if foreign countries count, London was pretty nice...

I'm going to New York City!! - OB1 - 23rd May 2003

I don't like Denver too much, but the smog you saw wasn't your typical L.A.-style fog. That was natural fog that sometimes sets in Denver. Colorado has the weirdest weather because of the mountains. It's mostly sunny, though.

And Fort Collins sometimes smells bad because of the cow farms in Greely. Stupid Greely. Or Greeley. Whatever.

I'm going to New York City!! - The Former DMiller - 23rd May 2003

Here's my analysis of some of the cities I've visited just because I know my opinion is of the utmost importance to all of you.

Chicago: Has pretty much anything you would want, and the city is kept super clean. That may sound like a small thing, but it does make a difference.

New York: Similar to Chicago imo, but is really dirty. Trash is everywhere, and I saw my first giant rat in NYC. :)

Denver: The mountains around Denver are beautiful, but smog is a problem as already mentioned.

Los Angeles: The smog is horrible in LA, and it really isn't too big on culture. The museums in LA really suck.

San Diego: Beautiful city, and the zoo is great. Not much culture-wise, but still a great city.

Toronto: Very clean city, and pretty big on culture. I'd rate it up there with Chicago, but I didn't really get a chance to check out the night-life so I can't really say it's better than Chi-town.

Washington D.C.: All of the government buildings are cool to visit, and has some great museums, but crime is a huge problem. We actually saw a mugging when we visited there a few years ago.

I'm going to New York City!! - Fittisize - 23rd May 2003

Most people up hear say it Calgary, as in Gary, Laser Link. It's a really nice city, I guess, about the same size as Edmonton (close to a million, which is gargantuan to most of the people out here). But I still like Edmonton more. Probably because of the Oilers. :) Gosh I love Edmonton.

And when I was in Denver a couple of years ago, I did not notice a smog problem. I stayed in a really nice suburb with my uncle, and we went to Denver to an amusement park and a Rockies game. Nice city, but the people are mean (compared to Edmonton). :) And of all the other American cities I've been to, why do so many of you carry guns??? Really makes it seem unsafe.

I'm going to New York City!! - A Black Falcon - 23rd May 2003

Yeah, Washington DC is great... if you stay in the museums or on the monuments on or by the mall. I wouldn't want to be in the actual city...

Toronto was nice. Wasn't there that long, but it was a very nice city... especially for its size...

Montreal is ... intresting. Its okay... if you know French. If you don't its pretty tough... given how all the signs and stuff are in french... but there is a bunch of things to do there... and its got a very extensive underground subway and walking tunnel system...

As for Boston, I've been there a whole lot of times. Lots of places to visit there... though I'd NEVER EVER want to drive there. Between the eternal construction (seriously. The Big Dig has been going on for like 15 years now...) and the horribly bad road layout...

And sure, Fenway Park has tiny seats that were made for people half modern humans' size... and lots of seats have obstructed views of either the field or some of the scoreboards. But its the atmosphere, the atmosphere! :)

I'm going to New York City!! - Dark Jaguar - 23rd May 2003

Tulsa and OKC have... nothing of interest, as a narrator in a PC adventure game reading back pre-recorded responses for looking at stuff in a movie phone guy style would say.

I'm going to New York City!! - A Black Falcon - 23rd May 2003

Oklahoma: It lives up to its reputation of BORING?

I'm going to New York City!! - Dark Jaguar - 23rd May 2003

Yes indeed, as a place it's very very dull. However, if you are like me and don't really enjoy going outside to do various... things (whatever it is people do out there) then it's no biggy.

I'm going to New York City!! - Great Rumbler - 24th May 2003

Oklahoma cities are pretty boring, but we do have a salt plain, which is more than I can say for most states. :p

I'm going to New York City!! - A Black Falcon - 24th May 2003

Kids, we're going to ... OKLAHOMA for vacation this year!

Yaay, what is there to do there?

Well, there's this great salt plain... exciting!

:S

I'm going to New York City!! - Great Rumbler - 24th May 2003

Hey! You diss my state you diss me, you got that?

...

It really is boring though...

I'm going to New York City!! - Dark Jaguar - 24th May 2003

We have a salt plain? First I've heard of it. Then again, I have never ONCE seen ANY of those majestic places they show in teh commercials for Oklahoma.

I'm going to New York City!! - OB1 - 24th May 2003

Gah, why won't you help me here, LL? The fog you and ABF found is not common in Denver. The fog you see once in a while is a result of the weird-ass weather that gets stuck in the mountains and settles in Denver. I'll ask my boss about it next week if you want details.

I'm going to New York City!! - Laser Link - 24th May 2003

Yeah, OB1 is right. Denver used to be really polluted, and it was real smog, but supposedly they cleaned it up a while ago. I think that is why Denver still has a bad rap about smog. There still is haze sometime, but it is just something wierd about the weather and not really pollution.

So Calgary is pronounced like Gary? Wow, that's going to take some getting used to.

I'm going to New York City!! - A Black Falcon - 25th May 2003

I don't say it like Gary... I've always said a soft 'a', not a hard one like Gary. But I wouldn't know how they say it...

I'm going to New York City!! - Darunia - 26th May 2003

How about Boston...there's a nice city for ya to visit. If you don't mind the confusion of the Big Dig, getting lost in China Town, or Little Italy...or getting pickpocketed in the subway.

I'm going to New York City!! - A Black Falcon - 26th May 2003

I've already said that Boston is a great place to visit... though it seems you're the only other person here who's been there...

I'm going to New York City!! - Darunia - 27th May 2003

Really...? Wow, that's odd...I thought Boston was more common than that. Capital of the New England...wow. Oh well. The only major commercial cities I've been in are Boston, New York and Providence....my experience may lack something.

I'm going to New York City!! - A Black Falcon - 27th May 2003

Maybe others have been to Boston. I know a few people live in Quebec... and Weltall is in Virginia. But I don't see anyone else here saying they have...

I'm going to New York City!! - EdenMaster - 27th May 2003

I've been to Toronto (those wacky candians), Pittsburgh (don't live too far from it), Chicago (so long ago I don't remember), Fredericksburg (in Virginia, before I knew Weltall), and Las Vegas (I was just below gambling age).

I'm going to New York City!! - Darunia - 28th May 2003

Boston is cool, just stay out of the Chinese and Italian sectors.

I'm going to New York City!! - A Black Falcon - 28th May 2003

I've been to Chinatown in Boston a few times...

I'm going to New York City!! - alien space marine - 29th May 2003
