I've officially changed my mind entirely about Link's appearance in Wind Waker. I originally thought his short stubby legs on that long body looked really odd, but not only has the look grown on me over the years, I've had the opportunity to see alternate Link designs in the Hyrule Historia (intended more as a collection of artwork than anything else). Frankly, having seen what long legged toon Link looks like, I can totally understand why they opted for the short legs. Toon Link with long legs looks like an awkward lanky teenager, rather than the child they were going for. The body being as long as it is was the only way to make up for it without making Link look like Stewie Griffin from Family Guy.

Hmm, while I've never been a "cel-da" fan, I don't know if I've ever cared too much about the stubby legs in particular... I just wanted a more OoT-like look, as opposed to Wind Waker's cartoony style, and disliked the somewhat bland-looking water in WW. The game does look good, though; once you play WW it looks better than those initial impressions suggested. But still I have always preferred the more realistic style, which is why Twilight Princess is my choice for best art direction ever in a Zelda game.

As for those stubby limbs though, they do look kind of funny, but it works with the other proportions of the cel-style Zelda characters, I think.
