Our very own Top 100 video games list - OB1 - 9th May 2003 Since IGN's list is so shitty I thought it would be nice and fun for us to come up with our own best video game list. But let's keep PC games seperate from video games since I don't want to have to deal with these Blizzard fanboys saying how WC3 is the best game ever. :D We'll make a seperate Top 100 PC Games list in the MCD forum. ABF, you can do the honors. The first thing we should do is list out every game we all think deserves to be on the list, and then we'll iron things out and eventually vote on it all. What should the list be for, though? I say that we list out which 100 games we'd choose to have to play for the rest of our lives. You know, that whole "if you were stranded on a desert island" sort of thing. Our very own Top 100 video games list - OB1 - 9th May 2003 I guess I'll start by listing the games I think deserve to be on the list. I'm sure I'll forget some, but that's what you guys are for. -Metroid Prime -Super Metroid -Metroid Fusion -Metroid -The Legend of Zelda -The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awaikening -The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past -The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time -The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask -The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker -Super Mario Bros. -Super Mario Bros. 2 -Super Mario Bros. 3 -Super Mario World -Yoshi's Island -Mario 64 -Mario Sunshine -Mario Kart 64 -Mario Tennis (N64) -Mario Golf (N64) -F-Zero X -Tetris -Puyo Puyo -Contra -Contra 3 -Ghosts 'n Goblins -Castlevania 2 -Super Castlevania IV -Castlevania: Symphony of the Night -Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance -Mega Man 3 -Mega Man X -Mega Man X2 -Mega Man X5 -Final Fantasy VI -Final Fantasy V -Final Fantasy VII -Final Fantasy X -Chrono Trigger -Chrono Cross -Xenogears -ICO -The Mark of Kri -Grand Theft Auto III -Grand Theft Auto: Vice City -Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec -Eternal Darkness -Super Smash Bros. I'm sure I left out a ton more. I'll have to go back and edit my list. Our very own Top 100 video games list - A Black Falcon - 9th May 2003 Starcraft 64! :D Uhh... the problem is EVERYONE would have a different list... I'd say that IGN's is good because it covers most of the angles pretty well. We wouldn't get one so dramatically better, I'd think... Our very own Top 100 video games list - OB1 - 9th May 2003 Oh yes we would. Their list is embarrasingly bad. Anf of course each list will be different. That's why we're gonna vote on everything. Our very own Top 100 video games list - A Black Falcon - 9th May 2003 Hmm... consoles only... that's hard. I haven't played so many consoles much at all... but from what I can list, let's see. This is a beginning for my list, anyway. :) NES -Super Mario Bros. -Super Mario Bros. 2 -Super Mario Bros. 3 -The Legend of Zelda -Mega Man 2 -Mega Man 4 -Bionic Commando -Gradius SNES -Super Mario World -Super Mario World 2 - Yoshi's Island -The Legend of Zelda - Link to the Past -F-Zero -Mega Man X -Mega Man X2 -Mega Man X3 -Secret of Mana -Seiken Densetsu 3 -Chrono Trigger -Super Street Fighter 2 N64 -Super Mario 64 -The Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time -F-Zero X -San Francisco Rush 2049 -Wipeout 64 -Excitebike 64 -Wave Race 64 -Star Fox 64 -Rush 2 - Extreme Racing USA -Jet Force Gemini -Perfect Dark GB/C -The Legend of Zelda - Link's Awakening -The Legend of Zelda - Oracle of Ages & Seasons -Final Fantasy Adventure -Kirby's Dream Land 2 -Bionic Commando: Elite Forces -Wario Land -Mega Man 4 -Mega Man 5 PSX -Mega Man X4 -Mega Man X5 -Mega Man X6 -Legend of Mana -Wipeout XL -Rollcage Stage II PS2 -Wipeout Fusion -Grand Theft Auto III -Metal Gear Solid 2 NGC -Metroid Prime -Skies of Arcadia -Super Mario Sunshine -Eternal Darkness A full list would take a long time. And have way over 100 games. Our very own Top 100 video games list - OB1 - 9th May 2003 We only really need around 70 games per person. Our very own Top 100 video games list - EdenMaster - 9th May 2003 WellI guess I'll just prattle them off as I can think of them... Super Smash Bros. Melee Eternal Darkness Zelda: OoT Zelda: WW Zelda: LttP Resident Evil Mega Man 2 Mega Man 3 Mega Man 4 Mega Man 7 Mega Man X Final Fantasy X Grand Theft Auto III Animal Crossing Mario Kart 64 Vigilante 8 Super Mario Bros. 3 Super Mario World Starfox 64 Kirby Super Star Game & Watch Gallery 4 *Latest Additions* Final Fantasy II (or IV for all you freakin' Japanese nitpickers) SimCity Super Mario Bros. Donkey Kong Jr. Super Mario RPG: Search for the Seven Stars That's all I can think of for now. Our very own Top 100 video games list - OB1 - 9th May 2003 Where the hell is Metroid in that list?? Our very own Top 100 video games list - EdenMaster - 9th May 2003 Proudly absent. Prime was good, as is the series, but not amongst my favorites. Our very own Top 100 video games list - OB1 - 9th May 2003 You eez crazy. Our very own Top 100 video games list - EdenMaster - 9th May 2003 This coming from the person with a dancing meatball as his avatar. ... Who am I kidding, I love Meatwad! Our very own Top 100 video games list - OB1 - 9th May 2003 You know it! Our very own Top 100 video games list - Laser Link - 9th May 2003 I thought IGN's wasn't too bad. You are just mad because Prime was in the 20's. I think 1 and 2 should have been swapped, but I almost had the Top 5 exactly. I would have guessed Mario 3 instead of Mario 1, but I see their point. And even in the anti-Nintendo confines of IGN they still had to admit that 5 of the 6 best games ever are all Nintendo's, with Tetris being the only exception. I don't think I've even played 70 games in my life, and I don't think you would want me to mention games like Lego Racers or All Star Baseball or Quarterback Club (or anything else Acclaim) in a Greatest Games list. But I will just list off a bunch ins some sort of order until I get bored or run out of ideas. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past Skies of Arcadia Super Mario 64 Mario Kart 64 Tecmo Bowl Super Mario World Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker Super Mario RPG Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening Super Mario 1 Super Mario 3 Pokémon RBY Baseball Stars Banjo Kazooie Diddy Kong Racing Super Mario Kart Earthbound Ducktales Pirates (I have a NES version, and the game rocks) Paper Mario SSBM Our very own Top 100 video games list - OB1 - 9th May 2003 No I don't care about Metroid Prime not being in the top 10. There are just too many great, influential games missing from the list, and certain games were terribly ranked. The list doesn't even follow their own rules. ALttP gets on the list but the original game doesn't? Sure ALttP is better, but Zelda 1 is definitely the more influential and innovative game, in the same way that Mario Bros. is more influential and innovative than Mario Bros. 3 while Mario 3 is the better game. It's like they only applied their guidlines to a select few games. It's a very poor list. Our very own Top 100 video games list - Darunia - 10th May 2003 I'm glad OB1---cuz Metroid Prime shouldn't even be in the top 50. :) In no order, the best/most important games (as many as I can think of right now): -Ocarina of Time -Perfect Dark -GoldenEye 007 -Sim City -Doom (all Doom) -Return to Castle Wolfenstein -Wolfenstein 3D -Maniac Mansion -Space Quest III: The Pirates of Pistulon -Space Quest V -Wing Commander I -Star Trek 30th Anniversary NES -Spear of Destiny -Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold -Cossacks: European Wars (+add-ons) -REMake -Zelda: Majora's Mask -Zelda: Wind Waker -Rogue Leader -King's Quest IV: The Perils of Rosella -Age of Empires (+add-on) -Age of Empires II (+add-on) -Chrono Trigger -Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island -Super Mario 64 -Super Mario Bros. -Legacy of the Wizard -Sim Tower -Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade -Dark Forces -Jedi Knight -Jedi Outcast -Quest64 -Breath of Fire III -GTA: Vice City -Mario Kart64 -Duke Nukem64 Our very own Top 100 video games list - A Black Falcon - 10th May 2003 Uhh.... Darunia, this one's CONSOLE ONLY. :) Our very own Top 100 video games list - OB1 - 10th May 2003 *shh!* that's alright! he's a slow learner. give him a few days and he might catch on to it. Our very own Top 100 video games list - Darunia - 10th May 2003 'Tis easily made good upon. Here it is again sans compy titles: -Ocarina of Time -Perfect Dark -GoldenEye 007 -Star Trek 30th Anniversary NES -REMake -Zelda: Majora's Mask -Zelda: Wind Waker -Rogue Leader -Chrono Trigger -Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island -Super Mario 64 -Super Mario Bros. -Legacy of the Wizard -Quest64 -Breath of Fire III -Mario Kart64 -Duke Nukem64 Our very own Top 100 video games list - OB1 - 10th May 2003 Quest 64 is on that list but Super Metroid, Metroid Prime, ALttP, and Tetris aren't? :eek2: Our very own Top 100 video games list - Fittisize - 10th May 2003 Hm...let's see. -Chrono Cross -Chrono Trigger -Eternal Darkness -Paper Mario -Star Wars: Rogue Leader -Star Fox 64 -Metroid Prime Top favourite games of mine (and the only games I have beaten...I only put the time in to beat games I really like) And for mulitplayer: Advance Wars Mario Party 1-3 Starcraft 64 (ain't never played them PC versions) Our very own Top 100 video games list - Darunia - 11th May 2003 That's right OB1. Quest was short and overly simplified, but fun...more so than I found Metroid Prime to be. You know that. Don't make this into an incident. Our very own Top 100 video games list - A Black Falcon - 11th May 2003 Quote:Starcraft 64 (ain't never played them PC versions) PC version is ten thousand times better. Why? Dramatically better quality graphics (not small and blurry), VOICES (all mission briefings are fully in voice, and all in-level cutscenes (where the characters talk to eachother) are in voice, and there are more voices for the units (on clicking they say more things, I believe), the 40 or 50 minuites of CG cutscenes, level editor, and, most importantly, INTERNET PLAY. SC64 is as good as it could be expected on consoles. That's just not very good. Our very own Top 100 video games list - OB1 - 11th May 2003 Hahaha.... Darunia is kidding, right? Please tell me that he's kidding. Quest 64 is sooo bad. Our very own Top 100 video games list - A Black Falcon - 11th May 2003 He's not. :S Our very own Top 100 video games list - Dark Jaguar - 12th May 2003 ABF, you went into detail on the minor differences and then just sorta glazed over the MAJOR differences between the versions of Starcraft? What's with ya lad? As ABF said, but I'd like to reiterate, there were two specific changes that are VERY important. The first? On N64, the only multiplayer is split screen. Do you have any idea how much an RTS game SUCKS in split screen? If you considered a game where you know exactly what the enemy is up to fun, try one where you don't. There really isn't any real possibility for any strategy when you each know what the other is doing, but there is when you don't. This isn't quite an FPS, where split screen also opens some strategis, this is RTS! Second, superior controls on the PC. Mouse is far superior to stick when it comes to RTS. This is very important since when you finally get into REAL multiplayer matches, you will in fact want some SPEED. You will want to be able to build up to and unleash a massive wave of endless forces in roughly 10 to 15 minutes. Darunia: To each their own, but I will say I found Quest 64 to be an extreme bore, whereas Metroid Prime was pure gaming goodness the whole way. Our very own Top 100 video games list - Darunia - 12th May 2003 I stand by my opinion. Our very own Top 100 video games list - Weltall - 12th May 2003 Top 100 lists are almost completely arbitary anyway. I can name maybe a top 20 maximum before I just start listing things in random order. 1. Xenogears 2. Silent Hill 2 3. Chrono Trigger 4. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night 5. Sonic Adventure Our very own Top 100 video games list - Geno - 12th May 2003 Perhaps we should nominate a bunch of games and make a poll to go on for a week or so, then list the top 100 games as according to the poll. Or not... I'll just list some of my favorites... Final Fantasy IV, VI, VII, VIII, IX, and X Chrono Trigger Kirby's Dream Land 1-3 Kirby Super Star Kirby's Adventure/Nightmare in Dreamland Donkey Kong Country 1-3 Super Mario World 1 and 2 Zelda: ALttP, Link's Awakening, OoT, and MM Grant Theft Auto III and Vice City Kingdom Hearts I don't have much time since I'm in school, so I'll cut the list short and end it there. Our very own Top 100 video games list - A Black Falcon - 12th May 2003 Oh, right, mouse vs gamepad... forgot about that one. :) But I'd say that by far the biggest problem is no netplay. I playedf SC single player for a few months, then again for a month or so when the expansion came out, then on and off trying to complete that expansion campaign for a few years, but not too often. I still play SC on B.Net. I played several games last week. Oh, other games that should be on the list... hmm. Arcade T.M.N.T. R-Type Pac-Man Jaguar Tempest 2000 PSX Lunar 2 - Eternal Blue (well I have the Sega CD version... and the PSX one doesn't have random battles so it's got to be even better...) Castlevania: Symphony of the Night NES Kirby's Adventure Maniac Mansion Mega Man 3 Ninja Gaiden Lemmings PS2 Escape from Monkey Island GTA: Vice City N64 Rogue Squadron Gauntlet Legends Hydro Thunder GoldenEye 007 NGC Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader Ikaruga Genesis Sonic 3 & Knuckles (lockon) Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Sonic the Hedgehog SNES NBA Jam TE Final Fantasy II Final Fantasy III Game Boy Faceball 2000 Kirby's Pinball Land Dreamcast Crazy Taxi Our very own Top 100 video games list - A Black Falcon - 12th May 2003 Okay, this is unusable. I can't use TC when the only way to see if there is a new post in a thread is actually to open that thread. Our very own Top 100 video games list - Darunia - 12th May 2003 Is anyone actually going to compile all of our results here and make a top 100 list for us...? I think that'd be a good, fun thing...community program the likes of which we've not had since the Great Shiggy Contest. Our very own Top 100 video games list - CartoonDevil - 12th May 2003 Well, if MoronBoy is the one who tallys the votes, I'm sure mine won't be included, because that is the kind of person he seems to be. What is the criteria that we are selecting these games by again? What's the best today? Most nostalgia? Biggest influence on the games following it? Nintendo 64 Blast Corps GoldenEye 007 Perfect Dark Jet Force Gemini Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Banjo-Kazooie Banjo-Tooie Diddy Kong Racing Mario Golf Mario Tennis ExciteBike 64 1080 Snowboarding WaveRace 64 Body Harvest Star Wars: Rogue Squadron Conker's Bad Fur Day Pokemon Puzzle League SNES Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past Donkey Kong Country Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest Super Mario World Super Metroid Super Mario Kart NES Legend of Zelda Super Mario Brothers Mike Tyson Punchout River City Ransom Metroid Zelda 2: Adventures of Link GameCube TimeSplitters 2 WaveRace: Blue Storm Metroid Prime Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II - Rogue Leader XBox Halo Max Payne GameBoy Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (NOT THE DX VERSION) Tetris Elevator Action Pokemon Red/Blue Our very own Top 100 video games list - OB1 - 12th May 2003 Who's MoronBoy? That's quite a clever name. Must have taken a while to come up with it. And Geno, I was thinking the same thing about making polls for each game in the top whatever list. Maybe we can do that in the abandoned Emulation forum. Everyone's vote counts except for PoopyHead here (see? I can come up with the clever names as well!). Our very own Top 100 video games list - CartoonDevil - 12th May 2003 I forgot NBA JAM for the SNES. Our very own Top 100 video games list - -JaSon- - 8th December 2005 Top 100 ? Boy thats toooo long. I'll just say top 10 now and later when I'm not lazy :D These are my preferences. 1 - Shenmue 2 (Cant believe 3 is cancelled! *insert cursing emoticon*) 2 - LOZ : Ocarina of Time 3 - Goldeneye. 4 - Half Life 2 5 - Halo : Combat Evolved 6 - Silent Hill 2. 7 - MGS 2 8 - Silent Hill 3. 9 - Gran Turismo 10 - Resident Evil 4. Our very own Top 100 video games list - EdenMaster - 8th December 2005 Well...UNNECESSARY BUMP!!! Our very own Top 100 video games list - Great Rumbler - 8th December 2005 This thread is two and a half years old!! Our very own Top 100 video games list - A Black Falcon - 8th December 2005 I've bumped two-year-old posts before... but yeah, it is kind of unnecessary. :) Our very own Top 100 video games list - Weltall - 8th December 2005 Holy shit, Xenosaga is in my top 10. I had hoped that history forgot that blantantly poor judgement on my part. Our very own Top 100 video games list - A Black Falcon - 8th December 2005 Not anymore! Our very own Top 100 video games list - EdenMaster - 8th December 2005 Ryan Wrote:Holy shit, Xenosaga is in my top 10. One mustn't judge a game by its first four letters :D Our very own Top 100 video games list - A Black Falcon - 8th December 2005 My list's pretty good, for the most part... though Megaman X6 was a bad choice, and I don't know if Rush 2 really belongs there... maybe, but 2049 is just so much better... Mario Kart 64 definitely should, though. ... I need to stop, I like N64 a lot, so I'd list too many titles... :D ... I could list just a few ... dozen... more... :) Our very own Top 100 video games list - TheBiggah - 8th December 2005 If you're going to revive this thread, I can post my votes, since I seem to have missed round one...(can't imagine why ;) ) -TheBiggah- Our very own Top 100 video games list - -JaSon- - 9th December 2005 Holy shit! I thought this was a new thread or something. Didn't notice the date. 2 years ?! Damn.. Our very own Top 100 video games list - A Black Falcon - 9th December 2005 How do you find a thread on like the last page of the forum and not notice that it's old? Just wondering... Our very own Top 100 video games list - EdenMaster - 9th December 2005 Parhaps he found it in the Who's Here area. Sometimes the "guests" are on just any random page. I've gone there before and seen them in threads this old, so maybe he just assumed it was a new thread from there, not realizing it was old? Looking at my list...I think it looks pretty good, even now. I'd probably add Soul Calibur II, Metal Gear Solid, GTA San Andreas, and Paper Mario TTYD, and remove G&W Gallery 4 (what was I thinking?), and there you'd have a fairly current list. Our very own Top 100 video games list - Dark Jaguar - 9th December 2005 We should explain the situation then. Many of the "guests" you may see visiting those ancient threads seem to likely be just google search "bots". Google has this spidery method of finding web pages to catalog in their massive shockingly fast database (relative to databases I've had the unfortunate "pleasure" of dealing with, no one ever listens to the guy suggesting they go "dynamic", though I do understand the frustration of making an old database "random access" if it is terribly confusing). Our very own Top 100 video games list - A Black Falcon - 10th December 2005 Don't worry too much about it though, we don't mind as much as some forums might, if you couldn't tell that already... :) Our very own Top 100 video games list - Weltall - 10th December 2005 Yeah, if nothing else, it's something to do. Our very own Top 100 video games list - EdenMaster - 10th December 2005 I have, on occasion, visited that page on slow days solely to see where the Google Bots are and go to one of the random pages they're on :D It's like looking back at a random page in your yearbook. You never know what you'll find, but it might just bring back memories! |
