Idiots... though I must admit, when I play SC then War3 I find myself saying "War3 is better in every technical way, has more gameplay features, has more variety of maps, and a better map editor... but SC is just, somehow, a bit better'... but WC3 SHOULD BE THERE! High on the list! But seeing TIE Fighter so high is really great... that game definitely deserves it... and given this is a all-console list its amazing that they put it at #11. Cool, though... its certainly in my top 10. Civ 2 being that high is also great to see. SC, TIE Fighter, and Civ 2 are 3 of my 5 favorite PC games... the others being WC3 and Planescape: Torment (the best RPG ever, IMO). Mentioning Torment, where is that game? Though that's more excusable -- its a phenominal game for some but I can see how a lot of people could hate it... its a unique game in some ways and if you dislike the style it'd be easy to see not liking it at all. But still... its brilliant... IGN's Top 100 Electronic Games Ever - OB1 - 9th May 2003 This is even worse than Game Informer's Top 100 List. No Mario 3, the best 2D Mario game? No Zelda 1? What the hell is the matter with them? It's sloppy, inconsistent, and completely nonsensical. Oh and WW isn't there because of a dealine or something like that. It came out before the list was made. We should make our own list. IGN's Top 100 Electronic Games Ever - A Black Falcon - 9th May 2003 Its a solid list. Missing some great games sure, but there are so many great games that making a list is really hard. And their list is quite comprehensive... nice variety of old and new, PC, console, and arcade... sure I could come up with a lot of games that should be there. But it'd require taking off some games that I wouldn't want to remove... so overall I'd say its a decent list. Not satisfying everyone, but doing a decent enough job. Its not like they do absurd things or anything... And did I mention that putting TIE Fighter that high gives it instant credibility? :) IGN's Top 100 Electronic Games Ever - OB1 - 9th May 2003 Their list is crap. F-Zero gets put on their list but FZ-X doesn't?? IGN's Top 100 Electronic Games Ever - A Black Falcon - 9th May 2003 Never said I agreed with all of it. Just that it's a decent list. IGN's Top 100 Electronic Games Ever - OB1 - 9th May 2003 I've seen better. IGN's Top 100 Electronic Games Ever - EdenMaster - 9th May 2003 Quote:85 - Final Fantasy X 85? 85??? That's as high as they rated FFX? Disgusting. Utter blasphemy. This list is crap. IGN's Top 100 Electronic Games Ever - Laser Link - 9th May 2003 I was scared to death they would pull some stunt like putting FFVII at number 1. It was a little scattered, but I don't think it was as bad as you say OB1. They really tried to combine the best and most influential games ever, which is hard to do. Mario 3 was a better game than Mario 1 in just about every way, but there's no denying that Mario 1 meant a lot more to video games than Mario 3 did. So it's a tough balance. IGN's Top 100 Electronic Games Ever - Weltall - 9th May 2003 This list is utter shit. Where's Xenogears? Where's Silent Hill? FF7? FF IV rated above FF VI!? I seriously feel like hitting somebody. ![]() IGN's Top 100 Electronic Games Ever - OB1 - 9th May 2003 Yes Mario 1 was much more influential than Mario 3, but Zelda 1 was also more influential than Oot or ALttP yet it's absent from the list. The list is crap, LL. Just admit it. IGN's Top 100 Electronic Games Ever - Darunia - 10th May 2003 That list is just plain appalling---Sim City & Wolf at #93 & #94!? Doom is #44 ! I lost a lot of faith in IGN when they switched to pay, but not...christ. IGN's Top 100 Electronic Games Ever - A Black Falcon - 10th May 2003 Huh. I think its a good list... Starcraft, TIE Fighter, and Civ 2 in the top 20... OoT above LttP... Sure I have complaints. No Warcraft III. No Torment. SMB above SMB3... Plenty of other games there I wouldn't put on the list, but there are enough that I like (and the ones I don't are mostly pretty popular) that I think its a solid list. The perfect list should satisfy no one but not make them think its completely worthless. I'd say it succeeds... IGN's Top 100 Electronic Games Ever - OB1 - 10th May 2003 No it doesn't! What kind of screwed up logic is that? Because the list is so terrible and nonsensical it's good? IGN's Top 100 Electronic Games Ever - Laser Link - 10th May 2003 Oh, I completely agree that they were not consistent. I was thinking of the very same example you gave OB1. I think part of the problem is throwing 10-15 editors into the mix, you simply can't get any consistency. All that really matters to me is the Top 10 or so, and that I agree with a lot. IGN's Top 100 Electronic Games Ever - OB1 - 10th May 2003 Yes, it makes no sense whatsoever. At least when EGM did their top 100 lists they decided on choosing 100 games that all of them would play for the rest of their lives if they were all stranded on a deserted island. Games that have near infinite replay value, ones that have only gotten better with age. The first time they made the list Tetris got the no.1 spot, but the second time they did it Super Metroid won. They followed one rule and one rule only. Personally, if I had to choose one game to play for the rest of my life it would probably be tetris. Even though I like several games more than Tetris, it is the most simple and replayable game ever made. IGN's Top 100 Electronic Games Ever - A Black Falcon - 10th May 2003 I just think that its not so awfully inconsistent. Sure its strange in some places but when you have that many people... it'll NEVER be perfect! IGN's Top 100 Electronic Games Ever - OB1 - 10th May 2003 EGM has just as large of a staff yet they managed to get it right twice. IGN's Top 100 Electronic Games Ever - A Black Falcon - 10th May 2003 You had no disagreements with their list? Oh, and IGN has a harder task. It has PC too. IGN's Top 100 Electronic Games Ever - Darunia - 10th May 2003 True that it'll never be perect, but it can get a lot closer than that. IGN's Top 100 Electronic Games Ever - OB1 - 10th May 2003 If they had followed their own guidlines for what gets on the list I'd be fine with it. But they didn't. IGN's Top 100 Electronic Games Ever - Fittisize - 10th May 2003 Musta read it too fast...where the hell is Chrono Cross????? Oh, Trigger was on there, that's nice, but Cross was soooooo much better! IGN's Top 100 Electronic Games Ever - OB1 - 10th May 2003 They left out a whole crapload of great RPGs. IGN's Top 100 Electronic Games Ever - A Black Falcon - 10th May 2003 Because only so many of them can fit on a list that includes all genres. IGN's Top 100 Electronic Games Ever - OB1 - 10th May 2003 Xenogears is better than FF X. So is CC. IGN's Top 100 Electronic Games Ever - Darunia - 11th May 2003 At a certain level it gets hard to filter out one's personal opinions instead of actual quality...that list is unfiltered. |
