Yes, really, at age 47 he's a player/manager for the Yuma independent league team. I hadn't heard of this until I saw this article, but I thought it was really interesting. Jose Canseco was one of the more interesting baseball players of the late '80s to the '90s. I always kind of liked him. Then of course he was one of the poster children for steroid use, but on the other hand he also wrote that book exposing the whole thing and naming names of steroid users, a pretty brave thing to do. He now claims that because of that book he's been blacklisted out of pro baseball, which is possible. I'm sure a lot of people didn't like what he had to say there...

As for what he's doing now, it's a little sad that someone who was a great player is now reduced to this, but if he can still do it, and is still in the game, why not?

Either way, I'd say people who are baseball fans should read the article, it's kind of interesting.

And Pete Rose should be in the Hall of Fame, but that ain't gonna happen.

Ahahaha, Canseco was playing in Edmonton not too long ago, it drew a far bigger crowd than average. I wasn't at the game though, sadly. I heard there was a bounty on his head, that if he struck out during the game an entire section got a free beer. So he ended up striking out and everybody was in stitches that it happened. They laughed at him. They jeered him. They shamed him. "Thanks for the beer, Canseco!", they all shouted. Yeah, the last ten years of his life have been bizarre.

Pete Rose probably should be in the Hall of Fame, that's true, but he did do something clearly wrong... Canseco? I mean, he did steroids, but I don't think he was a Hall of Fame caliber player even so. It's more that he wanted some kind of job in baseball but can't find one, so he blames them for blacklisting him mostly for the book.

I know he does have issues -- he's willing to do just about anything to make some money, etc -- but still, it is kind of too bad to see someone who used to be a pretty good player now doing this. He should have done a better job hanging on to some of that ~50 million he made as a player... :)
