If they are this far along now, I would expect working consumer models within 15 years.

And, if there is a demonstrable use for this technology in medical and military fields, maybe even sooner than that.

It's not quite as Holodeck as you think. It's just a pulse of sound on your hand. You can still move your hand through everything, as they were still doing in that video. No one's going to be walking on holographic stairs, that's for sure. On the plus side, the "safeties" don't yet need to be invented (and promptly turned off whenever the system glitches, killing thousands worldwide).

The iPad is totally a PADD though.

Star Trek's holodecks use forcefields which, presently, exist only in imagination.

This is just a hologram which is susceptible to human interaction. But, the basic concept is similar, and this is a prototype of it.
