Shogun 2: Total War Info Leaks - A Black Falcon - 28th May 2010 Awesome news... the first Shogun really was a fantastic game, like a sequel to Lords of the Realm with better battles but a simpler, less interesting overworld/strategic map aspect. The great 3d battles are great though, and the series has obviously done really well since then. The series has changed since Rome, though, which really redid the whole strategic map side, and not really for the better... but unfortunately, Shogun and Medieval don't really work on most modern PCs. I can't run Medieval at all on this computer, sadly, and Shogun runs terribly (software mode only, it's miserable!). But anyway, they did do a Medieval II to sort of make up for one of those, but they hadn't gone back to the first game in the series yet... until now. This game hasn't been officially announced yet, but this information sure sounds convincing. Shogun was a great game, it's on a smaller scale than games like Medieval or Rome so you have a more focused campaign that is much less overwhelming in scope. I like that really, there's still a lot to do and many options, but the victory goals and scope are just so much easier to understand when the campaign is in a restricted area. Anyway, this is pretty cool news. The Total War series definitely isn't perfect, but it's pretty good, and definitely one of the prominent PC strategy game series of the past decade. http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/54923/New-Total-War-To-Be-Unveiled-At-E3 http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/55045/Shogun-2-Total-War-Announced-By-Turkish-Site http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/55055/Official-Shogun-2-Total-War-Fact-Sheet-Leaks-Out Quote:Title: Shogun 2: Total War Shogun 2: Total War Info Leaks - lazyfatbum - 29th May 2010 and not a single fuck was given. What is the flow of the game? Shogun 2: Total War Info Leaks - A Black Falcon - 29th May 2010 Yeah, who'd care about the sixth game in a good, very popular, and long-running PC strategy game series that has been around for nearly decade... Oh wait, lots of people. Shogun 2: Total War Info Leaks - lazyfatbum - 29th May 2010 omg you're so retarded xD I was referring to the idea that no one posted yet. WHAT IS THE GAME FLOW LIKE Shogun 2: Total War Info Leaks - A Black Falcon - 29th May 2010 I think ASM's the only other one here who plays these games, so he's the only one I'd really expect to reply... Quote:WHAT IS THE GAME FLOW LIKE Presumably a lot like Shogun, Medieval, Rome, Medieval II, or Empire, but with some new stuff added. :p ... Strategy game. Overworld map of the world where you tell your armies where to go, build stuff, move other units, do diplomacy, etc. Battles are fought in very cool 3d engines that have always been the star attraction of Total War series games. The world-map strategy sides of the games are always somewhat simple, which is too bad (I'd love to see more depth!), but they mostly make up for it with style and those battles. Shogun 2: Total War Info Leaks - A Black Falcon - 2nd June 2010 Teaser trailer: http://ve3d.ign.com/videos/67971/PC/Shogun-Total-War/Trailer/Shogun-2-Total-War-Teaser-Trailer Shogun 2: Total War Info Leaks - alien space marine - 2nd June 2010 Given the high system requirements for the last installment + the performance issues, I am gonna low expectations this time around. 16th century Japanese naval combat? I don't see how it would be able to top 18th-19th century tall ship battles. Whats odd is that Napoleon Total war performs better on my comp then ETW, Although it still crashes occasionally and the closing cut scenes lag yet the openings work fine.. I never played shogun , ETW made the game a global contest and having it confined to a group of Islands in East Asia just doesn't sound very appealing. Why couldn't they have the next install centerd in China and its surrounding neighbors, Siam indo china, India,Japan,Mongolia,Turkestan and the silk road. Playing Ying Zheng the first emperor of china and his quest to expand the kingdom of Ch'in into the empire of china, Would be far more interesting. As I said I kind of feel the opposite, that the giant scale was overwhelming, and the focused campaign of Shogun is great because it's much easier to know what you should be doing... you don't have to conquer all of Europe, just one country. :) I loved the original Shogun, it was a great but flawed game. The scale is smaller, and the map long and thin of course, but you still have many strategic options, don't worry about that (Oh, and the original Shogun added part of Korea in the addon, so I wouldn't be surprised to see that again this time). It'd be interesting to see a China one, but not every game needs to have a continental scope... though I do expect that they'll do China eventually. It's a pretty obvious one, and it'd make for a very interesting game. Looking pretty nice... :) Shogun 2: Total War Info Leaks - alien space marine - 21st June 2010 A concern I have about it being in Japan, Is that since all the factions are Japanese are they all going to be identical to each other? and will they restore the family tree concept that was removed in the last installment? Something I disliked about Empire and Napoleon is that they didnt let you rename cities and regions like you could in RomeTW barbarian invasion. |
