That isn't true. While it didn't break any sales records, it wasn't a bomb... i was just below expectations... so a sequel isn't out of the question. I think it sold a couple hundred thousand.

You guys are insane there is no way that Microsoft is going to have a better showing at E3 than Nintendo! There's just no way that Sony will buy Sega! I just can't believe some people honestly believe that Nintendo's next console will be their last! It's just ludicrous to think that just because Leonard Nimoy was in Star Trek that he'd want to be in one of the games!

I believe it was what they call a sleeper hit. A great game which was sadly overlooked. I've read an article where Silicon Knights said a sequel wasn't out of the question. The real question, however, is wha to base it upon.
For anyone who finished ED through all three alignments, you may remember that they left it wide open for a sequel.

I know OB1's being sarcastic to push ABF's buttons, but we really shouldn't be pushing him towards insanity. According to NPD Funworld, Eternal Darkness sold 186,887 copies through January 2003. In that month, it sold through 6,600 copies. Judging by that, it should break 200,000 by the end of the year.

I guess the first post was kind of a drain of my skepticism. Now, I'll reveal what fueled that skepticism: a feeble attempt to control my excitement. The thing is, I get really excited around this time of year. Big announcements are made. Sales years are won and lost. Brand new games are shown for the very first time. Strategies are discussed. It's so exhillerating I often giggle like a schoolgirl. So for every skeptical word of mine, there are about a thousand thoughts about how I know the game will kick ass. I guess recenly I have focused a bit too much on the gloomy prospects for Nintendo's sales situation, and undeservedly forgot to talk about how much I love the games that I'm critical of. E3 is a perfect time to throw this away and simply bathe in the glory of it all.
Before, I guess I was taking the current expectations as a given and asking, "are these expectations wildly out of proportion?" And that's where my criticisms came from. Realistically, none of these games are going to be Gamecube's Mesiah. But it would be unfair of me to put that kind of expectation on them.
To be even-handed, all of the games I mentioned look like they are going to kick some serious ass. Pikmin 2 is precisely what I want, F-Zero looks amazing and has the racing gameplay prowess of Sega to back it up. Mario Kart, Mario Tennis, and Mario Golf look like they will redefine "addictive multiplayer." I'm thirsty for the traditional fighting action of Soul Calibre II (with Link). I love the artwork for FF:CC. I am a huge fan of the Rogue Squadron series, and I think Rogue Leader is still one of the most beautiful and intense games out there. PN03 has piqued my interest despite cool reception in Japan. Viewtful Joe, to everyon who has played it, is so stylish and smooth that it's hard NOT to have fn playing it. Wario World looks like a great evolution of Wario's 2D adventures. Kirby's Air Ride has a ton a character, and the simple controls guarentee that'll have that "instant fun" factor like Super Monkey Ball. I think I was misunderstood with the list that includes Resident Evil 4. I didn't mean that they wouldn't show up, I meant that they're probably not going to be Nintendo's "marquee" games for whatever reason. That said, I'm looking forward to all of those games. Killer 7's art design is mesmerizing. Resident Evil 4 is unbelievable. Billy Hatcher is Sonic Team's oddball, quirky goodness that I love. Metroid Prime 2 is the sequel to my favorite Gamecube game. Dead Phoenix looks epic, massive, and fun as hell. I had a ball with Timesplitters 2, so I'm eagerly awaiting what Free Radical has in store. I don't know whether MGS:Twin Snakes is a remake or not, but I have never doubted Hideo Kojima's talent. I have faith that whatever Miyamoto delivers in terms of in-house games will be at the forefront of the industry.
I completely believe that every game listed above (and others that I am forgetting) should outplay and outsell Sphinx. Yet the expectations for the above games are already incrediby high. I was merely mentioning that Sphinx has a slight chance of being a "dark horse."

I guess I assumed that Nintendo games usually have unrealistic expectations. But I admit that I have been overly skeptical. And for that, I wrote 555 words that express that I have made a mistake, and that I will balance my skepticism with the reality that I am enthralled with these games.

Oh, and 200,000 is only bad if you are expecting stellar sales. On most any other scale its perfectly decent.

Dissapointing? Yes. Awful? No. I definitely wish it'd sold a lot more copies, but at least it wasn't 'sequel is out of the question' bad.
Oh, and in the PC gaming industry most games never have a hope of getting 200,000... that's a very nice number for PC games...

The video game industry is much stronger the PC gaming industry. Sure you have a few games like the Sims which are huge, but video game sales far outweigh PC game sales.

And it'd be nice if PC games didn't cost $50. The reason why console games cost that much is because developers have to pay heft royalty fees and things like that, but that's not the case with PC developers. And all Sony-published PS2 games are $40. PC games shouldn't cost more than $40. WC3 was just one of many examples of extremely greedy publishers.

Uh, LOTS of PC games start at $20, $30, or $40, and they usually drop in price fairly quickly. Also, lots of dirt cheap older games are on shelves... I know every time I go I see some games a few years old that are under $10....
And lots of big-name games do start at $40. Not the biggest ones, though... for those they know they will get the sales so they charge more. Hence Warcraft III cost $60. Or $75, for the Collector's Edition (a common thing now with big-name games) that I bought...

Well I almost never go to Wal-Mart and I've never been to Target so I wouldn't really know... but from what I remember from the few times I was there they have a HUGE selection of cheap bad mass-market games and a few decent games, some of which actually aren't still full price well after others have dropped them in price... in videogames I've heard that those stores often do have lower prices for Gameboy games and stuff but PC? Not from anything I've seen.
When I look at prices at the mall at Best Buy, EB, and Gamestop EB is usually lowest, then Gamestop, and last is Best Buy... there's a Kay-Bee there too but they're as overpriced as ever.

Yeah, I have noticed many times over the years that in almost every case that prices are different, EB has lower ones than Gamestop... Gamestop has a much bigger selection of older and used games, but the prices on games both have are usually higher if they are different. I wonder why...
One that comes to mind is that when Ballistic was $7 or $8 at EB it was $15 or $20 at Gamestop.

No, they don't. They have poor selection and their prices don't drop like the other stores... not that they keep non-new games for long anyway. Unless of course they keep a few ancient games on the shelf for $50 like I've seen a few times at stores like that.
