If time were measured in the amount of times that Square has talked about this, we would all be old and in wheelchairs. Seriously, Square: make up your minds!

I am a huge FF nut. VII was the RPG that got me into the series. When talk started that a remake of the game was in the works, I nearly shot through my roof in glee. I would to see one of the greatest RPGs in history remade for the PS3.

Final Fantasy VII was not the one which got me into the series (I played them as they came out, starting with the first), but it remains my favorite entry by a few inches over Final Fantasy VI. I would love to see a remake.

Does PS3 play first gen PSX games?

Wada: "W're looking into the possiblity of an FF7 Remake" - Geno - 24th March 2010

^I'm pretty sure it does, but then, I don't own one. It'd be pretty lame if it didn't.

If FF7 gets remade for the PS3, I'll finally buy a PS3 even if I end up having to buy it on my credit card and make payments for a couple months (yes, I am that poor).

Wada: "W're looking into the possiblity of an FF7 Remake" - Great Rumbler - 24th March 2010

PS1 games work on the PS3, but PS2 games don't anymore.

Wada: "W're looking into the possiblity of an FF7 Remake" - Geno - 24th March 2010

That's... really lame.

Wada: "W're looking into the possiblity of an FF7 Remake" - Unreadphilosophy - 24th March 2010

The 20 GB model of the PS3 did play PS2 games. The model had a PS2 emulator installed in it. Unfortunately, the model was discontinued a short time after its release.

Because that makes all kinds of sense.

FF7 wasn't my first foray into FF territory, that honor goes to FF4, and I still rank it among my favorites.

Wada: "W're looking into the possiblity of an FF7 Remake" - Weltall - 24th March 2010

I'm playing it right now, in fact.

Literally--My DS is sitting, paused, on the desk to the right of my coffee. Though, I am playing the Advance version rather than the DS remake.

The DS remake was hard.

Wada: "W're looking into the possiblity of an FF7 Remake" - Darunia - 24th March 2010

PS1 games work on the PS3, but PS2 games don't anymore.

What the hell is up with that? I can't even begin to fathom the logic behind that. So, you have to get a PS2 to play PS2 games? Do they even make those anymore?

Wada: "W're looking into the possiblity of an FF7 Remake" - Weltall - 24th March 2010

>What the hell is up with that?

Sony are dicks.

Wada: "W're looking into the possiblity of an FF7 Remake" - Great Rumbler - 24th March 2010

Yeah, you can still get a PS2 slim.

And they took out the PS2 support in PS3's because it cost them extra money and they were already losing billions on the PS3.

Wada: "W're looking into the possiblity of an FF7 Remake" - Darunia - 24th March 2010

Sony are dicks isn't an answer. Is it a marketing ploy, so that there is still a need to buy two systems? I wouldn't want to have to buy two systems for that. Are there any good, safe PS emulators?

Wada: "W're looking into the possiblity of an FF7 Remake" - lazyfatbum - 24th March 2010

Sony wants to make sure they play the low end and high end markets. Lots of people dont need HD still and want a more affordable console and games. This way, they're forcing people to make the choice especially considering they actually make money on PS2's.

You'll need to download a PS1 BIOS as well, there's torrents around so just go on Google and look for one.

It was extremely hard, but I persevered through it with little more than a feeling of obligation :D

Wada: "W're looking into the possiblity of an FF7 Remake" - Dark Jaguar - 24th March 2010

PS1 games on the PS3 were and still are purely emulated. PS2 games used the actual PS2 hardware they put in early versions of the PS3. When they removed those chips as a cost saving measure, there went backwards compatibility. That's all there is to it.

The DS remake was hard.
I didn't find the DS version much harder than the SNES version, at least not until the very end when I had to start level grinding. I've never played the GBA version, so maybe that one is easier.

Wada: "W're looking into the possiblity of an FF7 Remake" - Weltall - 25th March 2010

It is VERY much harder, and designed that way on purpose. The GBA version is harder than the SNES version, too--but not by nearly as much.

The SNES version was so badly neutered, too. I can't even play it anymore.
