So sad... for baseball, particularly...

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4148907

Can't say I'm entirely surprised, given the state of the game, but still... it shows once again how bad things really are.

Quote:Scott Boras, Ramirez's agent, told ESPN's Peter Gammons that his client did not test positive for steroids, but for a drug that was prescribed by a doctor for a medical condition.

Sure, sure, that's what they all say...

Woah! - DMiller - 9th May 2009

So his medical condition was he couldn't get pregnant? I'm sure we all believe that one. Ramirez was definitely not someone I suspected of using steroids mainly because he has been big his entire career and didn't suddenly balloon like Barry Bonds. Hopefully other players will learn after such a high-profile player got caught, but I doubt it.

That's just Manny being Manny!

Now that Brett Favre isn't unretiring this week, Manny and The Roid Brigade is all you see on ESPN.

Hah, yeah, likely medical condition there he's got... :)

But yes, given that he has always been big, it does suggest that he's more likely been drugging for a long time, doesn't it. Of course, we already knew that a LOT of people in baseball are using drugs, but still, it is sad when you see proof of how pervasive it is... I mean, I'm sure Manny would be a great player without the steroids, even if by now he'd likely be declining some because of his age (36).

Is there anyone we can actually trust to NOT be on steroids? I think the last few years have proven that no, there isn't. I can't help but love baseball anyway, but it is a huge problem, and there doesn't seem to be a good solution. :(

Such a sad scenario... yet so likely... :bummed: (Read the article!)

Woah! - Weltall - 10th May 2009

#1: Bill Simmons is a toolbag.

#2: A New England sports team cheating their way to a championship? SHOCKING.

Woah! - A Black Falcon - 10th May 2009

Oh come on, the whole point is that every team had lots of cheaters then, and many surely do now. The Red Sox weren't doing anything every other team wasn't, that's for sure... and that's why it's so sad. That whole thing about 'nobody cared'... well, a few people did, but that's largely true. 'MY team isn't doing it', or 'oh well, everyone is', or what have you, and then they go to the next game... until Bonds and BALCO the fans did not punish people for it, that's certainly true. And it's only now that we're realizing how messed up the game, and the record books, are... and how many players cheated.

So yeah, very sad. But nothing to do with the Red Sox in specific, though I think you know that. :)

Woah! - Weltall - 10th May 2009

I do. And, my comment was more a veiled reference to the Patriots and their documented cheating.

But, as it turned out, nobody really cared about that, either.
