Vista Game Compatibility - A Black Falcon - 26th January 2008 Doesn't Work in Vista -- -All DOS games (most will run in DOSBox emulation, though) -Klik & Play and all games made in KNP do not work at all. (:bummed:) -Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance doesn't load. Annoying! -Re-Volt -- crashes during loading. Fixable? -Speed Busters Demo 3 (Mexico track) -- menu loads, but game crashes when you attempt to load the race. Work, with fixes (patches, compatibility mode, etc) Full Games -Claw -- Req. registry key addition to disable the DVD movies, which do not work ingame in WinXP/Vista, though oddly the lower-quality CD movies do, and the DVD ones can be watched through any movie player.) -Moto Racer 2 -- requires Compatibility Mode (XP or Win9x modes).-Pod -- Requires 3Dfx emulator (properly configured) and multiple patches to run. This is required in WinXP as well. -Powerslide -- Win9x Compatibility Mode required. -RedJack: Revenge of the Brethren -- Requires Win9x Compatibility mode or the game crashes when you try to save. -SimTower -- Game does not work as installed. Graphics work with added file. Sound does not work on my system (cannot get the sound driver to function). (patched, files added) -Star Wars: Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight & Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith (expansion) -- Work fine, but when the game goes to a menu the screen turns black with only the cursor visible. You must alt-tab out and then back into the game to fix the problem. (patched) Demos/Shareware/Freeware -Battle Realms demo -- requires Win9x Compatibility Mode. -International Rally Championship demo -- requires Win9x Compatibility Mode. -TrackMania Nations (Freeware Game) -- requires several patches to run in Vista; without patches it will not work. With patches it runs fine. (patched) Works, no changes needed (only listing games released before Vista came out in 2007; all games since are compatible.) -- Full Version Games -Baldur's Gate (though it looks better with one thing in the graphics options disabled) (has patch, user addons) -Chessmaster 3000 -Dark Messiah of Might & Magic (though on my system it crashes on about every other loading screen, for some odd reason) (has patches) -DethKarz (crashes sometimes, but the game is unstable on any OS) -Drome Racers -Dreamfall: The Longest Journey -Guild Wars (inc. all expansions/updates) -Morrowind (patched) -NWN 2 (inc. MotB expansion, patches) -Outlaws -Recoil -Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends (patched) -Rockett's New School -RollerCoaster Tycoon -Sid Meier's Pirates! (patched) -Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force -Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force - Expansion Pack -Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy -Starcraft (patched, w/BW) -Quake III Arena -Warcraft III (patched, w/ TFT) -Wizards & Warriors (though unlike in Win9x, but just like in XP, workarounds are required to get videos and some graphical elements to work) (patched) Demos/Shareware/Freeware -Arx Fatalis demo -Claw Demo -Fallout 3 (Van Buren) Techdemo -Incoming demo -Moto Racer 3 Demo 1 -- Windows pops up a "this game is incompatible with this OS" box, but the demo actually runs fine. -Speed Busters Demo 2 (Hollywood track) -- works fine, unlike the third demo version. -Summoner demo -Temple of Elemental Evil demo -Throne of Darkness demo -TrickStyle Demo -Warlords IV: Heroes of Etheria Demo -Warzone 2100 (all demos) -Wizardry 8 Net Demo etc, etc, etc -- very few demos that I have tried don't work... Emulators All I have tried except for Hu-Go!, which does not work (And DOS ones of course.). |
