Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street - alien space marine - 16th January 2008 Now that was the goriest sickess musical I have ever scene; Cannibalism and way to much throat slitting and the thing that sickened my stomach the most was all that god damn singing! Johnny Depps acting was good though Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street - A Black Falcon - 16th January 2008 I did see some movies during break, but I saw Charlie Wilson's War and I Am Legend, not that... ... gory sickening musical? Yeah, that is a weird combination. Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street - Dark Jaguar - 16th January 2008 By Tim Burton. Actually it really sounds like something lazy would have come up with. I saw I am legend also; How was Charlie Wilson's war? Tim Burton always makes weird movies with Johnny Depp in it; Sweeney Todd demon Barber of fleet street was a Broadway musical that Burton adapted to film; The Sweeney built a contraption on his chair that would drop bodies into the boiler room after he slit their throats open with a razor blade while pretending to shave them; The baker women Levette would cut up the bodies and make meat pies from the dead flesh and serve it to people. Sweeney Todd (Benjamen barker) was out for revenge on a judge that had him exiled him to Australia for 15 years on false charges in order to steal his wife Lucy; Which made Sweeney totally insane. It sounds interesting when you read the synopses but the movie is stomach churning and I really don't like musicals even if it is a slasher one. If you like musicals and Gothic slasher films you might like it. Somthing totally unreleated ballad of porn & a Stupid Brazillian reporter Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street - Dark Jaguar - 17th January 2008 The thing is, the previews indicated a dark comedy in the vein of Edward Scissorhands (how can a man have a scissor for a hand?). I just hope some confused parents who don't quibble over details like a movie's rating didn't make some big mistake. P.S. Edward Scissorhands in Kingdom Hearts 3? Yes. Yes. It waisnt the least bit a comedy ; Unless you think slicing necks open ear to ear with blood arteries bursting out is funny? Its the same play that was shown in Jersey Girl Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street - lazyfatbum - 17th January 2008 It's Tim Burton so it's worth watching and musicals are usually genius. Combine that with a slasher flick and you have no reason not to see it. I wouldn't have written it though. I want to do a porn musical. *bright fox trot* *curtain raises* *a woman in in a red dress* Cum on my ASS Cum on my TITS? Charlie Wilson, in the House of Representatives and on a committee that sets the military budget (for secret operations), is the "hero" despite being a totally morally corrupt person (he's constantly drinking hard liquor, it's stated that he uses cocaine (though this is not shown), he goes to strip clubs in Vegas and isn't married or exactly sticking to one partner... (so of course he gets put on the House Ethics Commitee. :) Despite what that might sound, it is a tough, serious film. It is, after all, about the Russian-Afghan War, which was essentially Russia's Vietnam. You leave the theater feeling down... it ends with Wilson trying to get money for rebuilding Afghanistan after Russia pulled out in the late '80s, but no one is interested in even a million dollars to build schools. We've won, who cares now? Well, they don't go out and say it, but everyone in the theater knows why we should have cared... (see: the rise of the Taliban shortly afterwards, the creation of Al Quaida, etc) Fascinating film though. The way that this one guy is pretty much all on his own able to get the money to arm the Afghan rebels to fight the Soviets is pretty interesting. It started with just $5 milliion dollars but reached $500 million by the end of the war... Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street - Fittisize - 17th January 2008 The last movie I saw was No country For Old Men, and I can't think of a better film from 2007. Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street - Sacred Jellybean - 17th January 2008 Quote:B-B-W This is the point at which I began reading the lyrics to the tune of "Be Our Guest" from Beauty & the Beast. :crap: Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street - lazyfatbum - 17th January 2008 YES! YES! THANK YOu! Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street - lazyfatbum - 17th January 2008 Now i'm like this:  Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street - Great Rumbler - 17th January 2008 Fittisize Wrote:The last movie I saw was No country For Old Men, and I can't think of a better film from 2007. You might want to check out There Will Be Blood. Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street - Sacred Jellybean - 18th January 2008 I'd like to see that. I suppose I can overlook Magnolia and give Paul Thomas Anderson another chance. Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street - Fittisize - 18th January 2008 I hope that was sarcasm... Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street - Sacred Jellybean - 18th January 2008 Nope. Magnolia was a huge, steaming pile of shit. I can't believe how much hype it gets... it's so damn cheesy and saccharine. How can anyone even take that movie seriously after the montage where all the major characters are singing lines from the same love song? So awful... Maybe I'm being a little hard on it... but it's easy to be spiteful when mostly everyone loves something that you just don't understand. Add in 3 hours and 40 minutes of "Why the hell am I still watching this crap?", and you've got even more frustration. It had promise, but it was just too long, cheesy, and self-important. Any substance it might have had is negated when the viewer can't take the movie seriously. Thank you for the warning SJ I am curious was AVPR good or a big pile of dog shit? Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street - DMiller - 18th January 2008 I never liked Magnolia either, but I did like Boogie Nights and Punch Drunk Love. And No Country For Old Men was great. I can't remember the actor's name who played Chugar, but it was one of the creepiest performances I've ever seen, and if I ever see him in another movie I don't think I'll be able to get Chugar's image out of my mind. Charlie Wilson's War, I Am Legend, and There Will Be Blood are all on my list so hopefully I can check them out soon. How can anyone even take that movie seriously after the montage where all the major characters are singing lines from the same love song? So awful... How unfortunate. I thought the movie was funny, insightful, thought-provoking, well acted, dramatic, moody... There are many adjectives to describe this movie, and none of them are negative. It definetly wasn't conventional and I felt like some parts, like the aformentioned montage, as well as the climax with all the frogs, made the movie that much better. I'm not going to try to offer any bullshit artsy-fartsy hipster explanations for either of those parts, because people who do that are douchebags, but they didn't hurt the film IMO. At any rate, I liked Magnolia more than PTA's other films, but I haven't seen There Will Be Blood yet, which looks awesome. Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street - Great Rumbler - 18th January 2008 I haven't seen Magnolia, but There Will Be Blood isn't anything like what you guys are describing. Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street - alien space marine - 19th January 2008 if i had aids then maybe. how would you feel if i had AIDS? Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street - Dark Jaguar - 19th January 2008 I thought I'd unleash your scorn by revealing I've never heard of ANY of these movies save the Demon Barber, and I had no idea that was based on a musical. I also don't know anything about musicals, except there's one called "Cats". Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street - lazyfatbum - 20th January 2008 Check out Phantom of the Opera, Rent, The Producers, Moulin Rouge... seeing them live is even more impressive. Not only do the actors have to look and act the part, but they also have to be able to sing and dance, the director has to balance the song, feelings behind it, litteral lyrics and still manage to tell the story, sub plots and all. Dont even get me started on set design. It's a technical nightmare but entertaining as hell. I used to think liking musicals meant you wear Gucci and were attracted to the same sex. I cant afford Gucci but I would wear it and I like girls but musicals are badass. ;D Especially see Producers (re-make). God. If just for the end of the movie. I laughed so hard I was crying. Also, I am Legend looks awesome. And it's Will Smith! Does anyone else feel like Will Smith is a part of their family? Whenever I hear he's doing well I'm like "Oh i'm glad he's doing well." wtf? The book was entirely epic and this remake looks like its going to be decent. Think Racoon City meets a couple Twilight Zone episodes. Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street - Sacred Jellybean - 20th January 2008 It seemed to me that the general consensus was that the remake of the Producers was crap, though I thought it was pretty good. I like the original more (and I haven't seen the musical on-stage, though I'd like to), but Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane were good choices for Leo Bloom and Max Bialystock. I'd be willing to check out Phantom of the Opera, and I vaguely remember enjoying Moulin Rouge when I was 16 (though I don't know that I'd still like it). Rent, though, I don't know if I could sit through. It looks really, really irritating from what I've read (and also based on a song from it that someone played for me, "Light My Candle"). As a general rule I'll watch anything at least once, but Rent might just be the exception. Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street - Dark Jaguar - 20th January 2008 Will Smith's doing well these days dear, but I hear he got involved with that scientology crowd. Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street - alien space marine - 20th January 2008 Thats not good ; Shunning psychiatric medication and being a total loon like Tom cruise and the evil emperor Xenu. You'd think south park dented that can of bull shit Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street - Dark Jaguar - 20th January 2008 South Park? Do you honestly think a comedy cartoon is going to do what countless deep criticisms and exposes have not? The most one can do is get the opinions out there, but this thing is likely going to outlive us. Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street - lazyfatbum - 20th January 2008 Bean/ She needed her candle lit so she can warm her heroin. The boy kept trying to tell her he doesn't have matches or a lighter and he's really starting to like her, so he's trying to stay out of helping her get high. She came over with the candle as an excuse to kinda play with him and see if he would be interested in her and maybe getting high with her. 'Light my candle' slowly becomes the same as saying 'light my fire' in terms of... passion and lovey dovey stuff. ;D but it's actually a pretty romantic scene... Rent can get annoying with its messages but its all very innocent. Moulin Rouge is an extremely well done and horribly depressing musical. I dont reccomend watching it by yourself :P The re-make to Producers is pure God damn genius. :D There is some questionable over-the-top cheese (the rooftop scene comes to mind) but its so Brooks. Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street - Dark Jaguar - 20th January 2008 I have decided this would make a good musical: <img src="http://www.picturesforsadchildren.com/comics/00000088.gif"> |
