Can she turn into Sheik?

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Bo Jackson - 25th June 2007

:(

Dude, it's NOE. Remember the DS Lite?

Interviewer: So, when will we see the new DS?

NOE: lol, wut? there's no such thing.

A day later Nintendo announced the DS Lite.

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Dark Jaguar - 25th June 2007

Merely a statistical anomaly. The majority of the time, if Nintendo denies it, it isn't going to happen.

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Bo Jackson - 25th June 2007

It depends on which "Nintendo" you're referring to. NOE is usually clueless.

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Dark Jaguar - 25th June 2007

Oh right, weren't you in those fabled highlands of NOE territory at some point? Yeah, you got dropped in the shaft of "no Super Mario RPG".

Anyway though, what's the presence of Sonic have to do with NOE?

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - EdenMaster - 25th June 2007

Dark Jaguar Wrote:Can she turn into Sheik?

I would assume, though that's not been confirmed. Returning characters seem to be keeping their movesets intact.

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Dark Jaguar - 25th June 2007

Well she seems to be based on the Twilight Princes Zelda this time around instead of the Ocarina of Time Zelda. It'd be a little odd, but I still want that transformation. If they aren't going to let her transform, she better use that sword.

Um, that just because NOE says it won't happen doesn't mean that it won't happen?

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Dark Jaguar - 25th June 2007

I think I missed the quote from NOE about Sonic. What, did they say something about that? I'm just under the impression that it's unlikely.

Scroll up to the first post I made on this page of the thread.

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Dark Jaguar - 25th June 2007

Ah, I think I missed it because it's in quotes and I guess for some reason I thought it was a quote of something said in this thread.

At any rate, yeah I have my doubts, but I can dream can't I?

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Bo Jackson - 27th June 2007

Sonic has been hinted at. And there's going to be a Mario and Sonic game. Seems likely that he'll be in Smash. Bet it'll be announced at E3.

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Dark Jaguar - 27th June 2007

A Mario and Sonic game? Tell me more!

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Bo Jackson - 27th June 2007

Erm

Uhh...who wants to break it to Bo-B1?

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Great Rumbler - 27th June 2007

E3 is still alive, it's just really small and only people that are specifically invited get to go.

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Dark Jaguar - 27th June 2007

What's all this then? Is that actually a game or some weird choice of mascott?

What country is this in? I bet those guys JUST got the SNES! It's 1992 all over again!

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Bo Jackson - 27th June 2007

It's a real game. I bet it'll be shown in E3, which is in a week or two, I believe.

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Great Rumbler - 27th June 2007

It's July 11-13.

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Bo Jackson - 27th June 2007

so two weeks

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Dark Jaguar - 27th June 2007

Provide a link! I demand a link!

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Great Rumbler - 28th June 2007

That's what Google is for or, you know, IGN.

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Bo Jackson - 28th June 2007

yeah that's pretty lazy of you, dj

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Dark Jaguar - 28th June 2007

The burden of proof lies upon YOU!

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Great Rumbler - 28th June 2007

No.

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Bo Jackson - 28th June 2007

he already proved it with that picture. if you want more, then go to 1up or ign. it's. not. that. hard.

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Dark Jaguar - 28th June 2007

You two always seem reluctant to provide links upon request, and yet for some reason are always the first to point out when someone else (ABF) doesn't provide one.

I mean you are free to do whatever you want. I just don't think it's all that big a deal to ask. I mean it's quicker. That's what people DO, they ask for sources for other's claims.

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Great Rumbler - 28th June 2007

We don't complain when ABF doesn't provide a link. No, what we complain about is when he ONLY provides a link.

And besides, I posted that picture, which all anyone really knows about it anyway.

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Dark Jaguar - 28th June 2007

That doesn't tell me much. It doesn't even tell me if it's an actual game or an odd mascot choice.

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Great Rumbler - 28th June 2007

It's a game, like we've said several times already.

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Bo Jackson - 28th June 2007

Really though, now it's just a matter of principle. I mean, if you're so lazy that you can't go look the game up then I guess you'll have to wait until you see it in game stores!

Dark Jaguar Wrote:ABF, yes I agree picking when to USE the moves is strategy. Learning how to pull off the moves though? No, that's not strategy. Yes, it's hard, that's a PROBLEM. In what way is needing to practice doing a 360 rotation on Zangief a part of developing my strategy? No, the only thing that matters as far as strategy is WHEN to use that move, what it counters, and all that stuff. The button move you use to pull it off, that ain't strategy!

Okay then... learning to be able to do the moves isn't strategy, I agree. It's skill. In SSB you remove the whole skill element from doing moves, and I find that to be something of a problem.

EdenMaster Wrote:We've got another confirmed character, and much as I hate to sound repetetive:

Goddamn.

Which Zelda is that, the TP Zelda or the OoT Zelda?

... I want both... and OoT one with the TP transformation, and a TP one that does what Zelda didn't do in that actual game and actually use the magic and sword they gave her in the cutscenes. :)

... I know, they won't do that. Just a playable Sheik, then? Sheik was my favorite character...

Quote:Well she seems to be based on the Twilight Princes Zelda this time around instead of the Ocarina of Time Zelda. It'd be a little odd, but I still want that transformation. If they aren't going to let her transform, she better use that sword.

If they want to keep her consistent with TP Zelda she'd have to transform into a useless black-robed figure who sits in a tower being sad...

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Great Rumbler - 29th June 2007

It's Twilight Princess Zelda.

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Dark Jaguar - 29th June 2007

I will grant it is skill to learn how to use the controller correctly, but it is not a skill that really impresses me that much. A battle determined entirely by who managed to actually memorize vast command lists isn't one I think is all that impressive.

Rather, I consider it far more impressive when the playing field for those with good and bad memory with commands is evened and the victory is determined solely by the skills of strategy and quick reactions.

I LOVE Captain Falcon! They BETTER keep him in there! Rather, they should differentiate Ganondorf more from Captain Falcon and really make him his own character.

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - EdenMaster - 29th June 2007

There is also something to be said from timing, a critical strategic element in any fighting game, SSB included. Timing a Warlock Punch to hit just when you need it to is an art. Many attacks are at their strongest for but a split second and you have to know when to execute. Zeldas flying kick and Mario's downward aerial punch come to mind, not to mention timing jumps to get the most horizontal distance when returning to the stage.

Timing is everything in SSB, and yes, I believe it's a big part the strategy involved in it.

A Black Falcon Wrote:You're probably right about the transformation thing. Nintendo has never shown any ounce of caring about the Zelda timeline... Zelda TP is NOT Zelda OoT and merging the two would be stupid, but you're probably right that they're going to do it anyway. :(

What are you talking about, not the same Zelda. You wanna get technical, it's not the same Link either. Of course not, but this isn't canon stuff here. It's SSB.

To my knowledge, Luigi, Pikachu, Link, and Fox never ACTUALLY materialized atop Princess Peach's castle and beat each other senseless. If that doesn't raise some sort of storyline questions, neither should having two different representations of (for all intents and purposes) the same character behave like one and look like the other.

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - A Black Falcon - 29th June 2007

True, true. The first SSB made it clear that they're animated toys actually, so if that is still true they can do whatever they want... but they haven't done anything to any characters (in their movesets or design) which directly contradict the characters that they represent as far as I know...

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Dark Jaguar - 29th June 2007

Actually, they have. Link is a fusion of all the seperate Links in the timeline, for example. DK is also apparently a fusion of DKC's DK and ol' Cranky Kong in his prime (the original). Captain Falcon's moves were invented out of whole cloth. Ness can use moves only Paula knew in Earthbound.

This is standard stuff. Nintendo DOES seem to care about the Zelda storyline, but that care stops with Super Smash Bros, and that's the way I likes it. I like this interpretation.

In fact I'd have to say that even saying they are toys probably isn't "cannon". I think it's more like the power of imagination.

Oh, speaking of, I hope they do the old style intros with Falcon riding into battle in his car and Mario coming up from a pipe. SSBM just had them beam in, and it wasn't as "they totally paid attention to the details".

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - lazyfatbum - 30th June 2007

my two cents:

In both SSB games the characters were based on specific games that they appeared in. in SSB:M Link is OoT and young Link is the MM version (uses bow and arrow) and has specific skills from that particular game. Unless the character has no specific fighting moves from any game they appeared in (Falcon) they try to stick as close as they can to the version of that specific character. Its true though that some characters got doubled and tripled like Mario who can throw fireballs, use his cape and toss enemies like Bowser in M64 but thats mostly because Mario needed moves badly and no one specific game (unless totally pulled out of their ass = Dr. Mario) could be used.

Link, Samus etc have so many moves from any game that you can decide on which game to use them from. SSB:M had Samus from Metroid 3 while SSB:B is obviously using the one from Echoes (who strips down at the end revealing the perfect hair and blue body suit at the end) or Zero Mission, i'm not sure. Her clone/color change will either be Dark Samus or the SA-X. I have a feeling Nintendo and the new teams will gravitate more towards the NCL titles than the Retro ones.

The Link in B will be the TP Link and will use the abilities from that game. The whirlwind boomerang, clawshots, etc. Snake will probably be a collection of various games because he's new but it looks like he'll be taken straight from Twin Snakes on GC because well, thats where the rights are.

TP Zelda will have her light arrows and I doubt any transformation moves will pop in but I have a feeling that we'll see Midna either in part of her moves (her super) or as her clone character, but definitely expect her super to have something to do with calling on powers from the guardians of light or the twilight realm. I havent seen it yet but I expected Zelda in B to have her sword from TP (that she drops during the invasion) and she would become somewhat of a fencing style character (like Roy/Marth) but now I dunno, she may only take it out for certain moves. I'm not saying Shiek wont be in the game but i highly doubt the TP Zelda will transform in to her. If Zelda was styled after the WW one would you expect her to transform in to Shiek? So if shiek is there, she's probably a locked character.

They haven't shown any Metroid themed levels so here's hoping for Aether that splits in to different dimensions while fighting (complete with Ing) and a fully powered Dark Samus as a playable character penis popcorn happy clams.

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Dark Jaguar - 30th June 2007

She WILL have them, or you hope she does? So far I haven't seen anything to indicate what moves she will use, except that she still has her magic kick, the one that hits hardest at the point. Anyway, Link had that upward and downward slash straight out of Zelda 2, and more to the point, his character descriptions seem to indicate that it's some sort of amalgam character.

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - Dark Jaguar - 1st July 2007

So they added a banana peel item. That'll be hilarious. I plan on sitting a few next to the edges of levels.

The thing I wonder about is this. The guy wants to know if the joke of the banana peel is understood outside Japan.

Wow... WE INVENTED IT! Well, WE didn't invent it, but someone in America did, I think. Anyway, OF COURSE WE KNOW ABOUT IT! In fact I'm pretty sure your country imported that joke from OUR country, like you imported grim reapers from Europe.

Wow! Samurai Gordo is in there too apparently, AS an assist trophy.

The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Thread - See you in March!! - EdenMaster - 2nd July 2007

I think if I am to have any hope remaining to see my beloved Geno in Brawl, the Assist Trophy cameo is my best bet. He was one of the top characters recommended to Sakurai when he had that suggestion site up.

To be honest, there are a LOT of characters that offer a slightly different flavor this time around. If you think they’re all going to be the same as they have been, it’ll be rough for you.

You do realize that buying this game doesn't cause your copy of SSBM to self destruct, right?
