Sonic Advance 2 - OB1 - 18th March 2003

I picked up the game a few days ago at Circuit City for only $24, and so far I can safely say that's it a lot better than the previous game. The level design is better, the music is better, and it's longer and more challenging. I still don't think like it as much as the Genesis/Sega CD Sonic games, but if developer Dimps continues to improve the series with each installment we may have something as good as Sonic Team's efforts very soon.

New to the game is the character Cream, who is quite possibly the lamest video game character I've ever seen. She's even lamer than Amy (who unfortunately has returned for this sequel), but she does have some cool abilities so it's alright.

This is definitely the best original platformer for the GBA, so you guys should buy it while it's so cheap at CC. If only Nintendo would make some original GBA Mario games.

"Lame" is debating what weird animal character is lame! They are all talking animals, and are thus equally lame! Besides, why would you want her removed as a playable character? How does removing a feature make the game MORE fun? You never HAD to use her before, so why on Earth would you remove it?

Sonic Advance 2 - OB1 - 18th March 2003

All I said was that the character was lame. But I also said that she has cool moves, so it's okay.

Just try and tell me that this isn't one of the worst video game character designs you've ever seen:

What? She's a cute little bunny rabbit! Everyone loves bunny rabbits!

Sonic Advance 2 - OB1 - 18th March 2003

Her name is Cream the Rabbit.

Sonic Advance 2 - Dark Jaguar - 18th March 2003

She looks like peaches and cream, at least her color scheme, so makes sense. I guess the name doesn't sound that bad since my grandmother owns a cat named Peaches and Cream, but I suppose it had to be shortened here.

Sonic Advance 2 - OB1 - 18th March 2003

...

Her name is Cream, and she's a weird-looking rabbit.

This is a Sonic game.

Sonic Advance 2 - Dark Jaguar - 18th March 2003

Exactly!

Sonic Advance 2 - A Black Falcon - 18th March 2003

Yeah, Sonic games always have strange characters...

Now all Sega has to do is remember that Robotnik should be called Robotnik and I'll be happy... though announcing Sonic Adventure 3 for NGC would be great too. :)

Sonic Advance 2 - OB1 - 18th March 2003

Sega isn't kind enough to Nintendo to release Sonic Adv. 3 exclusively for that system. I expect it to be a multi-console release, unfortunately. It's unfortunate because just about all multi-console games have to be made with the PS2's limitations in mind. Just look at Turok Evolution, MK: DA, Time Splitters 2, and Enter the Matrix for example.

Eggman is his Japanese name, but at least they seem to have invented a have arsed explanation for the rest of us who prefer consistency over any accuracy they should have stuck with in the first place. Eggman is just a nickname, yeah, that's the ticket!

Sonic Advance 2 - A Black Falcon - 19th March 2003

Eggman is a dumb name. Robotnik is a good name for a evil mad scientist type. I really don't see why they changed it... like NIntendo, changing Princess Toadstool to Peach... sure it makes it the same as the Japanese name, but the US one was better!

Sonic Advance 2 - OB1 - 19th March 2003

Less syllables.

Sonic Advance 2 - Dark Jaguar - 19th March 2003

Peach is her first name, Toadstool is her last. Not that hard to deal with, is it?

Eggman is a dumb name, of course it is, but it's also hilarious! I mean, the fat guy is egg shaped, so it's perfect, and it's all nerdy! Like "Hey, what's your name new fat kid with dorky glasses? Eggman! I know who's getting HIS arse kicked every single day for 12 years!". And that's when he turned evil...

*suddenly, a street fight breaks out for no raison*

Okay, let's put this behind us. I'll take the little guy, you take the giant 14 armed monster!

Sonic Advance 2 - A Black Falcon - 19th March 2003

But when's the last time she was called Toadstool? I think it was that 'letter' in the beginning of SM64...

Sonic Advance 2 - OB1 - 19th March 2003

She signed the letter as Peach...

Is that what you were trying to say?

Sonic Advance 2 - Dark Jaguar - 19th March 2003

Yes, Princess Toadstool...Peach! And then the first name was at last revealed.

Sonic Advance 2 - OB1 - 19th March 2003

Right, right. You know, when I first played that game I thought that "Peach" at the end was just a saying like "bye!" or something.

Sonic Advance 2 - Dark Jaguar - 19th March 2003

How could you possibly think that? When have you heard someone use it like that?

I myself at first thought it was some other person who was with her.

Sonic Advance 2 - OB1 - 19th March 2003

I thought it was a British thing or something like that.

Sonic Advance 2 - Dark Jaguar - 19th March 2003

A British thing? It's a Japanese game, which is something I've known since the NES days when I first beat an NES game and saw the credits.

Sonic Advance 2 - OB1 - 19th March 2003

I thought that it might have been a localization thing since it was a European copy.

Sonic Advance 2 - big guy - 19th March 2003

OB1: i know what you mean, while i never really bothered to formulate a theory about what "peach" meant at the end of her note, i never knew it was her name until months later.

Sonic Advance 2 - Dark Jaguar - 19th March 2003

I figured out it was Peach very quickly after my mistake. I soon realized that since only Toadstool and the toadies were kidnapped, that I must have totally forgotten that last names sometimes go first when signing letters.
