Final Fantasy VII: Kingdom Hearts III

Imma calling this old man the "Key Master" - Dark Jaguar - 31st March 2007

I saw nothing of FFVII in there. I mean the knights sorta remind me of FF1, but really it more reminds me of legendary knights meet evil martial arts master trying to gather the mirrors.

Now THAT fits right in with Disney animation themes!

Imma calling this old man the "Key Master" - Dark Jaguar - 31st March 2007

Dern straight! Yoda/Mickey is there to save the day!

This is supposed to be a glimpse of a new series (spin-off?) of Kingdom Hearts. We should know more by the end of this year. It was said this is NOT KH3.

I'm playing the second one right now and I must say it's fun, but not as great as the original. The pacing is awkward, and the voice acting is okay at best.

Imma calling this old man the "Key Master" - Dark Jaguar - 3rd April 2007

No it is. It's a secret ending you get at the end of KH2 Final Mix version. This isn't referring to the creator's other project he's been talking about recently.

Imma calling this old man the "Key Master" - A Black Falcon - 3rd April 2007

Really though, the tone of that is so far away from anything Disney that it's ridiculous...

Imma calling this old man the "Key Master" - Dark Jaguar - 4th April 2007

Same tone as the secret ending of Kingdom Hearts 1, and well, a LOT of the cinema scenes throughout the games.

The way that the guy manages to get Disney and... these... to mesh so WELL is pretty amazing. Take the final battle against Xemnas where we learn from King Mickey that we need the darkness as well as the light, and then we chop down buildings in a world of nothing with a giant techno dragon and stuff.

Frickin' sweet.

By the way... I CALLED IT!

Some months ago, I said "if they ever do a Final Mix of KH2 they need to redo Christmas Town, because it needs it's OWN music (like What's This or something) and costumes being it's own world, and also I know the costumes, and Sora would be a Santaman and Goofy would be a reigndeer and Donald would be... an elf or something". Well, Donald turned out to be a snowman, and that's the ONLY thing I got wrong! (Okay the "What's This" song turned out a REALLY heavy remix.) Psychics DREAM of my level of accuracy!

They really REALLY need to bring this remix to America, in a box set with the Final Mix version of KH1. I'd buy it, and so would EVERYONE.

It has some relation to other project...

Quote:Gemaga asked if the characters who appear in the new CG "secret movie" that has been added to Final Mix are from the new title. "They are people who have some relation to the new series," said the producer. "However the next title won't just be Kingdom Hearts III. If it were III, we wouldn't call it a new series."

Asked if Sora and Riku would make an appearance in the new game, he said with a laugh, "I can't say." He also hinted that the new game would have something to do with Xehanort, the main villain of the Kingdom Hearts series.

He was just as direct when Dengeki PlayStation asked for some details on the new title. "First, it's not Kingdom Hearts III. Of course, because we're calling it a 'new' series, it won't be KHIII. Also, it's a series, so it probably won't be just one title."

Of course it won't be just one title. It's Square-Enix; every successful game gets sequels!

... I mean, right now there are what, twenty upcoming Final Fantasy games? A dozen at least... FFXII RW, FFXIII, FFvsXIII, FFXIII mobile (?), FFI-PSP, FFII-PSP, several more mobile games, FFT-PSP, FFT A2, FFCC The Crystal Bearers (DS), FFCC-Wii, FFVII Crisis Core (PSP)... what am I forgetting? Anything other than mobile titles that usually don't come out in the US, as far as I know?

Yes, Square-Enix likes its franchises. :) (I know, they do have some games that don't have sequels (I want Threads of Fate II... :()... but when they're big hits, like Kingdom Hearts is or a KH spinoff likely would be? There will be.)

... still, it's funny for the guy to say "there will be sequels" from the beginning... what is it, a "one game broken into parts" thing (like the .Hack games)? Or just "we know it will sell and we'll be making more"?

FFXIII Hereisas (sp?)
The platform hasn't been announced yet.

I have a feeling they're going to do to Kingdom Hearts what they've done to Final Fantasy- spin-offs in every direction they can think of. Kingdom Hearts 3 is no doubt coming, but it looks like we'll get the spin-off first.

Except Xenogears.

But wasn't that made by the people who made Xenosaga? Or at least some of them? 'Sequel' doesn't necessarially mean 'sequel that lives up to the original'... (and yes, I know Xenosaga was published by Namco, not Square-Enix)

I thought about mentioning that one (Haeresis?), but I don't think it has actually been officially announced... but yes, Kingdom Hearts going in the FF direction definitely looks very likely.

The Mana series is seeing this too -- note how the 'World of Mana' project has resulted in a realtime-easy-Mysterious Dungeon game (decent but not so great), a KH-ish action game (PS2 - not out here yet, and supposedly bad), and an RTS... but no actual Mana games like the old ones...

Yeah, it had some of the same crew, but really Xenogears and Xenosaga weren't all that related.

Still though, it was meant as a restart/continuation of the franchise...

Imma calling this old man the "Key Master" - Great Rumbler - 5th April 2007

That doesn't mean anything though. They may as well be completely different games in completely different series.

Imma calling this old man the "Key Master" - Dark Jaguar - 5th April 2007

It is a little annoying to beat Xenogears and keep seeing "Episode 5", as it makes me think of what might have been...

Imma calling this old man the "Key Master" - A Black Falcon - 5th April 2007

I bet that if you'd thought Xenosaga was as good as Xenogears you wouldn't be complaining about the story connections... :)

Imma calling this old man the "Key Master" - Dark Jaguar - 5th April 2007

Apparently you don't know me very well :D. Xenosaga was originally envisioned as an addition to Xenogears. They actually wanted to make 6 Xenosaga games and then 5 more Xenogears games to finish that saga (there was supposed to be an episode 6 there too). Xenosaga was actually supposed to basically be a series taking place and explaining a lot of the Xenogears series.

Well, that didn't work out, so now it's some alternate reality story. Even if the games ended up awesome, I'm the sort that would still want the original story finished off.

Imma calling this old man the "Key Master" - A Black Falcon - 5th April 2007

Twelve games? That's being a bit over-ambitious, isn't it...

... The same thing happened to Ogre Battle... they designed a long series, made a few parts of it, and then... that's it. :(
