Fallout announced for PS2 and XBox

The game is set shortly after the events that transpired in the original Fallout for the PC, when humans are emerging from underground shelters after a nuclear holocaust. In their battle against mutant raiders and pirates, players will uncover a plot that involves plans to turn the remnants of humanity into a race of mutants with the use of a special device. One to two players will have access to a variety of weapons, including melee and range weapons as well as explosives.
"We're very excited about bringing the Fallout universe to console gamers," said Scot Lane, executive producer at Interplay. "The gameplay is more attuned to the console platform, stressing more action and combat than the PC versions, which placed a greater emphasis on RPG elements or strategy."
Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel is scheduled for release this fall.

Heh, they're dumbing it down for console gamers.
If you think about it, though, most console rpgs place a greater emphasis on the story than action.

Fallout PC is a slow paced, turn-based only PC tactical RPG... the battles are slow, because of the turnbased system... and the third PC game is actually a full-fledged tactical strateyg game in the Jagged Alliance vein. And those gameplay styles just aren't console-friendly... so, like Baldur's Gate (which on PC is a realtime RPG that has some strong RTS influences), its a dumbed down, action-focused game that you get... no a deep strategic RPG like the PC games.
Fun? Yes, no question. But not deep or complex... and that is a big part of the appeal of the PC games for many people.
