Twilight Princess Q & A - Darunia - 5th January 2007

Why can't I fish. What am I doing wrong. I cast off, and nothing happens. Do I need a lure? If so, whence?

Twilight Princess Q & A - Great Rumbler - 5th January 2007

Nunchuck?

Twilight Princess Q & A - Darunia - 5th January 2007

What about it.

The booklet says to shake the wii mote up and down while fishing to attract a fish, but this only casts and recasts. The bob isn't in the water when you cast and recast. Shaking the wii mote up and down thus does not catch fish.

Twilight Princess Q & A - Great Rumbler - 5th January 2007

Ah, you're doing bobber fishing.

1. Cast by jerking the 'mote towards the screen.
2. Wait until bob goes all the way under the water.
3. Pull 'mote back and hold it there.
4. Link catches the fish.

Twilight Princess Q & A - Dark Jaguar - 5th January 2007

In other words, wait for the fish to actually grab the lure. You've fished in real life, right? You can also very slightly move the lure to new positions, but as a rule you just wait...

Twilight Princess Q & A - EdenMaster - 5th January 2007

Yeah, the instructions the manual gives is for lure fishing (the more fun of the two, IMO), but bobber fishing is pretty brainless. Just throw it in and wait. Eventually you'll get a greengill (or maybe something else, if you use bait).

Twilight Princess Q & A - A Black Falcon - 5th January 2007

Fishing is stupid... it was stupid in OoT and it is again here.

... sure, I have the GC version, but I somehow doubt that I'd care about it one bit more with the analog stick... catching that one stupid fish for that cat was annoying enough. I hope it never makes me fish again in the game...

Twilight Princess Q & A - EdenMaster - 5th January 2007

You can suck the fun out of anything. ANYTHING.

Twilight Princess Q & A - A Black Falcon - 5th January 2007

Fishing was fun in Link's Awakening, but not in any Zelda game since then... (though finding stuff with the crane in WW wasn't too bad, just tedious when it came to the triforce shards quest)

Twilight Princess Q & A - Dark Jaguar - 6th January 2007

Annoying? Was it tough? I caught that first fish in like 5 seconds, no effort required.

You actually found fishing in LA to be funner than in OOT? Huh... Well, different tastes I guess. I loved fishing in OOT, and now that it's more "open" I like it even more in TP. As for the crane in WW, I mean, what? That was basically like torching random bushes in Zelda 1, only with a crane, and you don't get charged for burning down "doors" every now and then. I'm not talking when you first start finding out you can do that and solve a few puzzles in Zelda 1, I'm talking the "random" stuff after that to find every last hidden door, that's what's boring, and "crane work" in WW was equally dull.

Twilight Princess Q & A - Great Rumbler - 6th January 2007

I actually caught TWO fish for the cat, because I caught one and then didn't know what to do with it and it got away. Took me about two minutes.

And real fishing in TP is fun. Nunchuck!

Twilight Princess Q & A - A Black Falcon - 6th January 2007

I had to catch two fish too, because it didn't come over interested until I caught one, then I had to catch another for it; I don't know how long it took... a lot longer than two minutes though, that's for sure! The controls for it are a bit clumsy, I thought...

Quote:You actually found fishing in LA to be funner than in OOT? Huh... Well, different tastes I guess.

LA was just a simple little arcade minigame, while OoT actually tried to emulate fishing, an activity which is inherently boring...

Twilight Princess Q & A - EdenMaster - 6th January 2007

Fishing isn't boring. Waiting for the fish is boring. The thrill comes when you get them. I can picture you in a boat, five minutes in.

ABF: Where ARE they? I threw the lure in, they're SUPPOSED to be biting. Is this a glitch of some sort?

Twilight Princess Q & A - DMiller - 6th January 2007

I agree with ABF about the fishing in LA's being more fun than fishing in OoT, and I would've agreed with him about the fishing in TP if I had just based my opinion on lure fishing. I had trouble catching the fish for the cat early in the game as well. Once I got to the fishing hole, however, fishing was much less of a chore. The Wii controls are perfectly set-up to emulate fishing and provide for a fun experience.
