Ubisoft going back to their Petz - Dark Jaguar - 9th August 2006

Looks like Nintendogs has made them want to go back to their old series.

Look at that idiotic commentary. Any of them ever consider "research" before? It sure helps before you make a claim.

Basically, they are all saying they ripped off Nintendogs. That's an interesting idea, except do they even realize that Petz has been around since the mid 90's? If anything Nintendogs ripped off Petz.

At any rate, we'll see if they can play catch up to what Nintendo's done. So far, at least they aren't doing the stupid "version" thing Nintendo pioneered with Pokemon. Seriously that was the most blatant "we want more money so we'll make you pay for the same game over and over again for slight differences rather than release it all as a single package" thing ever, and honestly I wish they'd stop.

I will say I've yet to get Nintendogs simply because I'm waiting them out to see who comes up with a kitty cat game based on that first.

Well, the original Petz games weren't by Ubisoft, they were by P.F.Magic, so the NEW Petz series is kind of a Nintendogs ripoff (notice the release soon after Nintendogs became a big hit? Yeah.)... but yes, the series clearly predates Nintendogs. Stuff like Catz/Dogz and Tamagochi are earlier examples of "virtual life" titles... though I'm sure that there are others before that...

Of course Tamagochi was a lot different than Petz and Nintendogs.

Been done.

That's just Catz but dropped down to a level where it can be done on GBA. Unfortunatly it just isn't up to snuff like I'm wanting. No mouse or touchscreen means a lack in interactivity, which is a large portion of what makes these games fun.

Yes, but both are implementations of virtual pets...

Of course you could call the whole category of 'virtual life simulators' part of the same genre too, if you wish... Seaman, for instance...

Um Ryan, DJ is talking about a portable title, not a PC one... as he said in the first post, he knows full well that such titles have existed for over a decade...

Such as the copy of Catz 1 I have from somewhere around 1996... :)

I could have sworn this was the link he gave, too. I didn't even know about this game until I clicked the link in his post earlier. But now it leads to a PC title of the same name? Weird.

Think before you post, you're both missing the point, I'm pretty sure...

Yes, I'm aware of Petz games for both PC and Gameboy. I'm talking about the DS and a modern day version of Petz (or at least Catz). I'm actually looking forward to Nintencats more than Catz, but I'll take whichever one hits that system first.

From what I've seen of Catz GBA, it has absolutely no relation to the original PC game, which is why I was making a distinction... kind of fun, but it got really repetitive really fast. I didn't play it for long... (the PC game)

Whoops. Well, I'm stupid. But in my defense, I hadn't slept the night before.
