Phil Harrison Wrote:I think Peter Moore is exactly right. I think Nintendo will be the second system consumers purchase after PlayStation 3.
Phil Harrison Wrote:I haven't had a chance to check out the Wii myself, but Nintendo has a great history of innovation and has always done great things for gaming and long may they do so. But as it relates to our strategy they are very much in a different market.

It's just both Sony and Microsoft trying to establish that they have "real consoles" and Nintendo does not... it's not Moore and Harrison actually praising Nintendo; in reality, it's backhand insults -- 'your console is so weak that we won't even consider it competition'...

If that's the case then what do they consider the console that they are in direct competition with?

Huh? Eachother... though Sony would like to pretend that it has no competition and simply owns the whole industry. :)

yes, it's completely backhanded when a company reccomends BUYING a different product :D

I think it's more likely that these statements of praise for Nintendo come from what's happening now with DS and that Wii will mirror it.

that, and with the recent strong rumor of Nintendo running their software on dev kits at E3 and telling us that more hardware surprises are on the horizon, i think they know what kind of aces nintendo has in store. Take all of this with the huge support for the system, the confirmed physics processor and other goodies, you start to get the sense of a massive take-over but in a new way, not a monopoly, but a symbiosis. I think the companies got toegther and discussed a business model for everyone, one that isn't about who can rule the industry but how to find a balance and stay in top demand across all camps. Time will tell though.

Well, if every PS3 and 360 owner owns a Wii, doesn't that mean that more people would own a Nintendo console than either of the others? :) It is a backhanded compliment because Sony and MS don't consider Nintendo a serious competitor, and would rather have people buy a Wii as a second console than anything else.
