I know I'm not! But it is as good a reason as any to have one.

Because anime girls are celebrating this holiday too? :)

Anyone else having a mad Yuri Day party? - Dark Jaguar - 12th April 2006

Alright then... Okay, it's actually Yuri's Night, the celebration of some guy in some space shuttle, but I got it about right!

Anyone else having a mad Yuri Day party? - Smoke - 12th April 2006

This was what immediately came to mind when I read the thread title.

Anyone else having a mad Yuri Day party? - Dark Jaguar - 12th April 2006

That's not even close to what I had in mind...

<img src="http://www.penny-arcade.com/images/2006/20060327.jpg">

Wait, didn't Penny Arcade mention that once before? Oh lords, they weren't just making words up, that stuff actually exists! NOOO!

Anyone else having a mad Yuri Day party? - A Black Falcon - 12th April 2006

... what does it say that when I saw 'Yuri', I had two first thoughts: the C&C: Red Alert 2 character Yuri (male Russian badguy from that game and its expansion Yuri's Revenge, complete with a bad accent... good game, funny FMV cutscenes... :D), and Yuri from King of Fighters (female Japanese fighting game character)? :) I somehow managed to forget the 'lesbian manga' connotation...

Anyone else having a mad Yuri Day party? - lazyfatbum - 13th April 2006

fuck. i walked in to this thread unprepared and saw sailor moon characters, now I have to go masturbate AGAIN.

I thought the same thing as well, but then I noticed that the thread started was DJ and I knew it had to be something else.

DJ is weird... :)

Cardcaptor Sakura though...implied lesbian themes yes, but also a disturbing 'but they're like 11, why have such content with characters of that age' factor...

Anyway, Yuri.

Well there's Yuri yuri.

And I didn't even post the really explicit covers.

Anyone else having a mad Yuri Day party? - Dark Jaguar - 13th April 2006

That's it! Shut up!

<img src="http://www.penny-arcade.com/images/2006/20060410.jpg">

This was SUPPOSED to be about space travel! You suck! Et tu ABF? I admit I never saw the Japanese itteration of that show with magical cards and school children, but what the eff are you talking about?

Quote:I admit I never saw the Japanese itteration of that show with magical cards and school children, but what the eff are you talking about?

It's not nearly as bad as ABF makes it out to be. It is there however. Just about every kind of relationship that might be deemed taboo in American society is at the very least hinted at over the course of the series. But, that's pretty much all there is: vague hints.

Anyone else having a mad Yuri Day party? - Dark Jaguar - 13th April 2006

Or perhaps it's YOU! Eh, I dunno... What I can say is this thread hurts my brain.

Absolutely true, it is made for children, so they don't make obvious hints and children would miss the stuff they put in, intentionally I'm sure... but it is a good show, and yeah, that's not a big part of the show. Just one of many things that Japanese shows can do that American ones can't...

Quote:Well there's Yuri yuri.

I've heard of it, but haven't read any... I think, anyway... I love how they parody the real KOF game names and subtitles, though. :D ('Yuri & Friends '98: Dream Time Never Ends'? The real KOF '98's title is 'King of Fighters '98: The Dream Match Never Ends'... :D)

DJ, this is TC... topic changes are required, preferably several times per page of a thread! :)

... and my first thought was kind of space related... Yuri (the RA2 character) has psychic powers and spacetime warping technology... plus, the game has Einstein's time machine, and tesla coil guns! There's even a mission in the Soviet campaign set on the moon... See, technology! And space! :D

Anyone else having a mad Yuri Day party? - Smoke - 13th April 2006

Also we're not asexual like you DJ. Sexy anime girls making out is a good thing.

Anyone else having a mad Yuri Day party? - A Black Falcon - 13th April 2006

His reaction was definitely amusing...

Anyone else having a mad Yuri Day party? - Smoke - 13th April 2006

Word of warning, the Yuri and Friends series turns many of your favorite KoF girls into futa.

Anyone else having a mad Yuri Day party? - A Black Falcon - 13th April 2006

If simple yuri did that to DJ, that link will really mess him up... :)

As for futa, now THAT is as weird an offshoot of manga art and design as I've seen... the whole concept is just so odd... (it's not just transsexuals, transsexuals are trying to be one or the other!) but you can see where it probably comes from: so you can have lesbian AND heterosexual content without adding any more characters into the story! Wow!

... and very, very odd.

Anyone else having a mad Yuri Day party? - Smoke - 13th April 2006

And very, very hot. If futa's the strangest anime fetish you've heard of then you haven't even scratched the surface. Futa's not weird, shitting dick-nipples are weird.

Check out Hentai/Alternative on 4chan.

Quote:And very, very hot. If futa's the strangest anime fetish you've heard of then you haven't even scratched the surface.

Well no, it's not the weirdest I've ever heard of, but it is a weird one... the characters look completely female (look, clothing, how they are drawn, etc, no hint of ... male body parts...), and then... surprise! (well not surprise to the characters, usually, or to the reader, who probably knows what they're reading, but ... the word fits anyway...)

... inflation? Now that's one I hadn't heard of. That's different... :) 4chan I've heard of though, reasonably well known...

I pray you aren't serious.

At any rate, disturbingly funny as the very idea is, I can't help but realize somewhere there are people who actually do find this sort of thing, tantalizing.

Oh well, whatever's in those links likely resembles <a href="http://www.ghazporkindustrial.com/maggottshow67.mp3">this</a>.

I don't understand that position at all... it's not quite the same, but on forums like gamefaqs whenever someone makes a 'drawings of girls from videogame x are hot' thread someone says 'how could you find such things attractive that's stupid look at real women' and while I don't post in them, I think 'but why not? they are attractive... and what in the world is wrong with finding pictures of attractive people attractive?'

With you I'm sure that your opinion is different (at least with your online persona it's much more like that 'asexual' thing that was mentioned), but my response is the same. I think it seems a lot odder to NOT find anime/videogame characters, etc attractive than TO find them attractive... now 'I try to maintain an asexual online identity'? Fine. I have no problem with that. I try to do that to a degree myself... (just look at how I trip over myself in this thread trying to mostly agree with Smoke while avoiding using his terminology and emphasis...) But 'those images are awful'? Huh? Um, no.

Oh yes, and GR, awesome image... :D One of the better Orly Owl image uses I've seen.

Anyone else having a mad Yuri Day party? - Great Rumbler - 14th April 2006

Quote:'but why not? they are attractive... and what in the world is wrong with finding pictures of attractive people attractive?'

Renaissance painters painted naked people all the time, so I don't see how this is really all that different. Although, I wouldn't necessarily equate yuri to the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel...

Anyone else having a mad Yuri Day party? - lazyfatbum - 14th April 2006

Reminds me of that episode of Animanics.

"you want children to help you paint naked people all over a church!?"

In reality there is nothing offensive about the nude body in any way, no matter what it looks like, what age it is, or anything of the sort. Just a young girl engaged in a sexual act or showing off her sexuality etc there shouldn't be anything wrong with that regardless of the context, nor should lesbian sport fighters or really, anything sexual. Especially in this case where it's actual drawings.

The only time sexuality is wrong is when people are getting hurt or abused but even then, there are people who enjoy that as well (in controlled environments) so ultimately it just comes down to people who are frightened of their own sexuality who see sex as something mysterious or classify it as wrongful but intelligent people eventually grow out of that phase. But before they do, they go around trying to tell people who are comfortable with what they like or enjoy that its wrong without having any clue as to what they're talking about and trying to solidify some twisted sense of morality where doing things that make you feel good is somehow evil. Enter the Catholics. :D

Anyone else having a mad Yuri Day party? - Dark Jaguar - 14th April 2006

Now now, that's the sort of obvious realization that everyone who's ever been 14 should be aware of. I'm just saying this PARTICULAR imagery is both hilarious, sad, and disturbing all at once. Also, some of this sort of makes the bile rise in my stomach, the way rotting food might.

Anyone else having a mad Yuri Day party? - Great Rumbler - 14th April 2006

Hey, remember when 4Chan used to have the Goro section? Haha, good times...

Anyone else having a mad Yuri Day party? - Smoke - 14th April 2006

Gurochan. Some... no, almost all of the stuff on there does turn my stomach.

Anyone else having a mad Yuri Day party? - Great Rumbler - 14th April 2006

I will laugh for a thousand hours if DJ goes to that site.

Anyone else having a mad Yuri Day party? - A Black Falcon - 14th April 2006

If simple yuri is "disturbing", for whatever reason... um... yeah. DJ would not like that site... yuri isn't disturbing. Not in the least. Futa perhaps... But that stuff? Definitely disturbing, no question.

Anyone else having a mad Yuri Day party? - Dark Jaguar - 15th April 2006

I'll take your advice, but this whole concept is strangely fascinating. Question! Did you scan those strange book covers or did you just fine those images online? ABF, does your anime club go and buy this stuff, as you mentioned reading it (also, "read" it?). Finally, how long before these people get sued for BLATANT copyright infringment, as these things are apparenly being sold?

Anyone else having a mad Yuri Day party? - Great Rumbler - 15th April 2006

Quote:Finally, how long before these people get sued for BLATANT copyright infringment, as these things are apparenly being sold?

Short answer: Never. Doujin [generally knock-off mangas with licensed characters, often adult in nature] are huge in Japan. Comicons there are absolutely FILLED with the stuff. Apparently, Japanese companies don't mind them because they act as free advertisement and the fact that they are usually published in very small quantities. Just don't try that in America.

Quote:Question! Did you scan those strange book covers or did you just fine those images online?

They were most likely found online as there are hundreds [thousands, maybe] of site dedicated to doujin.

Anyone else having a mad Yuri Day party? - EdenMaster - 15th April 2006

This has got to be one of the most drastic, not to mention quickest (2nd post!) topic changes ever to strike TC! Hooray for records!

Oh, and that is the greatest O RLY image ever, GR :D.

Anyone else having a mad Yuri Day party? - A Black Falcon - 15th April 2006

Yeah, doujin scans are all over the internet... anime club doesn't play hentai. (and hentai anime isn't manga, which is the topic of discussion here) It's not hard at all to find doujin scans (both normal and hentai kinds, there are both), or just manga scans (normal, non-hentai/doujin ones) in general, all over the internet if you look...

Quote:Oh, and that is the greatest O RLY image ever, GR .

Yeah, I said that earlier... :)

Anyone else having a mad Yuri Day party? - Smoke - 15th April 2006

I'm amazed that someone who once had a Sailor Moon fansite could be so uninformed about these things. :p

Anyone else having a mad Yuri Day party? - A Black Falcon - 15th April 2006

Heh, good point there... :)

Anyone else having a mad Yuri Day party? - Dark Jaguar - 16th April 2006

It was actually more a video game site than anything else, but yeah that doesn't make it any less retarded.

And thanks for the economical and legal issues there. I think that's all the information I needed, though to be honest I really doubt that any game company is really going to like the sort of "advertising" they might get out of it.

DJ never ceases to amaze me by his lack of knowledge about the internet.

Retarded? What's retarded?

Game company? ... oh, right... I assume it just falls under Japan's equivilant of 'fair use'...
