*ahem* X-Box Live - OB1 - 2nd January 2003

I couldn't get on internet yesterday, so I didn't see any of the responses to my thread about who here is planning on getting X-Box Live.

So...?

*ahem* X-Box Live - Laser Link - 2nd January 2003

I will get NintendOnline and play Pokémon, Mario Kart, and other various kiddy games. But I bet I can convince my XBox loving friend to get XBox Live and then you could play him. But, actually, he lives in Greeley. So you wouldn't really need to go online to play him. Darn.

*ahem* X-Box Live - Dark Lord Neo - 2nd January 2003

Hmm iIhave an x-box so no
and even if I had one it would be no
Why pay $10US a month when I can play PS2 and PC games online for free

*ahem* X-Box Live - LukeIsTerrified - 3rd January 2003

Three of my ONLINE PALS have it and want me to get it, but I am holding strong. Also I don't have enough money.

*ahem* X-Box Live - OB1 - 3rd January 2003

Actually it's $50 for one year. PSO for the GC is $10 a month, which is insane.

*ahem* X-Box Live - Dark Jaguar - 11th January 2003

You know, the Live Starter Kits got me thinking. Subscriptions and gamers don't really mix too well. We don't like commiting future money to stuff, since we don't know if we will still want it then. However, the starter kits are basically an already paid for year. I think MS, and maybe other companies, should REALLY consider a calling card style pricing plan. All you need to do is pick up a few code disks at the store, each one netting you a certain number of hours, and then it's like you just bought a normal store item, instead of the scarry ogre-like prospect of subsribing. You wouldn't even need a credit card or anything like that, since the whole setup is on the disk and paid for.

Hey, Nintendo should consider that as their strategy. MS isn't too late to turn that into their strat (just keep selling a year's worth at $50 in the stores MS, instead of your plan to force people to subscribe to continue after the trial pricing is over).

*ahem* X-Box Live - OB1 - 13th January 2003

That's a good idea.

*ahem* X-Box Live - lazyfatbum - 2nd February 2003

LL I cant wait to be online with you and play happy kiddy games like Mario Kart and Naga Naga No Dentsue Surf Panda: The Towel That Breeds. (A DOA: Volleyball clone made by EAD, but with male animals). The name will be changed to "Weaving Nets of Blood: The Neopagan Rituals" for Europe and America will get "OOPS! Woof-Woof's V-Ball Party". I heard the box art has a nude giraffe on it, this is surely a wonderful time to be a gamer.

*ahem* X-Box Live - Dark Jaguar - 3rd February 2003

I'd just like to say that... I've said enough! Now I have last post in all the forums!

*ahem* X-Box Live - OB1 - 3rd February 2003

Like hell you do!

*ahem* X-Box Live - Dark Jaguar - 3rd February 2003

Well I did for a bit...

*ahem* X-Box Live - OB1 - 3rd February 2003

Not anymore, bucko.

*ahem* X-Box Live - Great Rumbler - 3rd February 2003

I won't be getting Xbox Live anytime soon for 3 reasons:

1. I can only get 56k where I live.

2. I don't have any Xbox Live games.

3. I don't have any money to spare for Xbox Live even if I wanted it.

*ahem* X-Box Live - OB1 - 16th September 2003

Alright, now does anyone here have X-Box Live? You should get the $50 starter kit while it's still that cheap. Pretty soon it's gonna be $70 (although the annual subscribtion will still be $50).

*ahem* X-Box Live - Great Rumbler - 16th September 2003

No, I still don't have it.

*ahem* X-Box Live - OB1 - 16th September 2003

You suck.

*ahem* X-Box Live - Great Rumbler - 16th September 2003

No, my internet provider sucks. They're the ones that are giving me any DSL.

...

You know DSL is LSD backwards...

*ahem* X-Box Live - OB1 - 16th September 2003

And Mr. Peebody backwards is Ydobeep .Rm....

So when do you think you'll be getting cable or dsl? You should ge the Live starterkit now while it's still $50. You can activate it anytime you want to.

*ahem* X-Box Live - Great Rumbler - 16th September 2003

I'd wouldn't expect anything for at least another year. My Cable TV company is starting to provide Cable internet, but so far it's only in Texas and where I live there is only one local phone company and they don't do anything unless they have to.

*ahem* X-Box Live - OB1 - 16th September 2003

Doesn't DJ have a broadband connection?

*ahem* X-Box Live - A Black Falcon - 16th September 2003

Poor guy... dialup stinks. Here we have both cable and DSL internet providers...

*ahem* X-Box Live - Great Rumbler - 16th September 2003

I think so, but DJ lives in Tulsa while I live at the end of a dirt road that runs through a cow pasture...okay not really, but you get the idea.

*ahem* X-Box Live - Dark Jaguar - 16th September 2003

Aw, poor GR...

As I've said, I have XBox Live. MS did recently add a monthly pay service (apparently for those who only use XBox Live for a bit and not for the rest of the year or something), but they have stated they will keep the yearly service (which is good, because paying their monthly price would cost a chunk more). I should certainly recommend you get the kit at least. Soon it'll be $70, as he said (though at least you get online Tetris with it), so you may want to at least have it as a sort of reservation for when broadband finally comes to your one horse town. What was that? Oh, the wind...

Lovely how long a year's worth lasts, what with a year being a whole YEAR long and all :D. It'll be nice when the first REALLY huge Live title is finally released in the form of Halo 2 (though my main FPS want is PD0), and maybe Halo 2's single player won't suck this time.

*ahem* X-Box Live - OB1 - 16th September 2003

I still haven't bought the Live kit, but I will this weekend since there are finally some good Live games coming out.

*ahem* X-Box Live - Private Hudson - 17th September 2003

Still waiting for it to be released..

Probably wont get it, though. Not enough time anymore.

*ahem* X-Box Live - Dark Jaguar - 17th September 2003

When ya do, tell me your Live ID. Mine's, get this, "Dark Jaguar". I know, you are staggering in awe of my creative genius :D.

After that, link your .net passport with your ID at the Xbox Live website so you can recieve invites from me even when you aren't using your XBox.

*ahem* X-Box Live - OB1 - 17th September 2003

I'll probably be Prancetron2000 or OB1234598723495872340948572309857 since someone probably already took OB1...

BTW what games do you have? I plan on getting Sega GT Online (only $20 next month), Operation Flashpoint, possibly Rainbow Six 3, and uh... I dunno what else.

*ahem* X-Box Live - Dark Jaguar - 17th September 2003

Mech and the Assaulting thereof. Get it.

*ahem* X-Box Live - OB1 - 17th September 2003

Nah.

*ahem* X-Box Live - Private Hudson - 17th September 2003

Mech Assault is far superior to any of those games you listed.

And you have a good PC, why get Operation Flashpoint and Rainbow Six 3 for your XBox??

*ahem* X-Box Live - OB1 - 17th September 2003

I played Mech Assault and didn't like it very much. RS3, Operation Flashpoint, and Sega GT are a million times better. :shakeit:

The reason why I might want to get the X-Box version of RS3 is because of all of the great improvements they've made to the game. It's not a simple port of the PC version; it's almost an entirely different game. One of the best aspects of it is that you issue all of your commands through the headset, which makes it far more realistic and fun than the PC version. They've also fixed the pre-planning problems from the PC version.

I like Flashpoint for the PC but the X-Box version should be even better. Flashpoint 2 is a long ways off and the X-Box version of Flashpoint 1 is pretty much Flashpoing 1.5. They're using an engine that looks very similar to the Flashpoint 2 engine, they're polishing the gameplay, and the editor is still there. Playing it online with the headset is another huge plus.

Sega GT online is Sega GT 2002 but with online play, and it's only going to be $20! You'll have the customization of Speed Devils Online but with the terrific gameplay of Sega GT.

*ahem* X-Box Live - Dark Jaguar - 17th September 2003

One word: Patch. That's the thing about PC games, they get patched and whole features get added, and often times huge ones that change the nature of the games. For instance, the Army Operations 1.9 update that added medics and possibly bigger, changed the whole way damage works, basically you bleed now.

*ahem* X-Box Live - OB1 - 17th September 2003

Uh... what does that have to do with anything I just said?

*ahem* X-Box Live - Dark Jaguar - 17th September 2003

One acro: RS3

*ahem* X-Box Live - A Black Falcon - 17th September 2003

But analog-stick aiming is no fun when you have a better alternative... and as DJ says, PC versions are generally "patched" to fix bugs. :)

*ahem* X-Box Live - OB1 - 17th September 2003

Uh, there aren't any major RS3 bugs that I can think of. The X-Box version really is vastly different from the PC one. No patch could change that.

And like I said before, just because you suck with an analog stick doesn't mean that everyone else does. I'm very good with analog sticks.

*ahem* X-Box Live - Dark Jaguar - 17th September 2003

A really BIG one could. Patches these days do a lot more than fix bugs.

Aside from the things you mentioned, which I imagine could be changed via patch, what else has been redone?

*ahem* X-Box Live - OB1 - 18th September 2003

You don't seem to understand what I meant by "it's not a straight port". There's a completely new storyline, an entirely new campaign, none of the PC missions are re-done, the AI has been vastly improved, the planning is completely different (and there's no pre-planning, kinda like Ghost Recon), you use the headset to issue commands, the graphics engine has been overhauled, there are many new multi-player modes, and while most of the levels are similar-looking to the PC ones, the architecture is very different. No patch could change all of this.

*ahem* X-Box Live - A Black Falcon - 18th September 2003

But isn't the pre-planning a really big part of RS? How is it still RS without it?

*ahem* X-Box Live - OB1 - 18th September 2003

Actually pre-planning has always been the biggest flaw of the Rainbow Six series, and even the developers admit that. Raven Shield improved it some but it still sucked.

By pre-planning you know that I'm referring to creating "tracks" for your teammates, right? It works much better when you plan things on the go.

*ahem* X-Box Live - A Black Falcon - 19th September 2003

Why is it such a big flaw, though?

*ahem* X-Box Live - OB1 - 19th September 2003

Because it's very clumsy and making paths for your teammates has always been bad because they'd run into walls, you'd have little control over them as soon as the mission started, and various other things. It's better to control them during the mission, like in Ghost Recon.

*ahem* X-Box Live - A Black Falcon - 19th September 2003

Huh... I haven't exactly played those games much, just the demos of Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear several years ago. Seemed like okay games, but not worth getting, imo... not for me.

*ahem* X-Box Live - OB1 - 19th September 2003

They're really great games if you like tactical shooters.

*ahem* X-Box Live - OB1 - 31st October 2003

Alright, I finally got X-Box Live today! $40 for the v2 kit. :) I picked it up before I went to work so I haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but I'll do so when I get home tonight. Right now the only Live-enabled game I have is Crimson Skies, which all of you Live owners should get.

*ahem* X-Box Live - OB1 - 4th November 2003

Well last night after an hour or so of trying to convince her, I finally got DJ to play a round of MotoGP with me. Naturally she used a stupid robot voice mask because if I knew what she really sounded like I would want her to marry me (or whatever weird reason she has) or ask her to help me move into a new home... but whatever, at least she was willing to play. It wasn't for very long since I got disconnected and when I tried to join her game she wouldn't stop (I waited in the lobby for over thirty minutes) so that was that, but it was fun while it lasted. I didn't use a voice mask but I didn't talk in my regular voice, but as soon as DJ takes off that dumb mask I'll start talking normally.

I just wish that she wasn't the only person at TC with X-Box Live. It would be cool to play another TC member a game of Ghost Recon or Crimson Skies and actually talk normally with them.

Blast.

*ahem* X-Box Live - Dark Jaguar - 4th November 2003

Yeah, OB1 used a weird Apu accent. It was funny, until he tried immitating Meatwad... That was just sad...

Oh, and I thought you could just join into the match. I wondered what happened to you. It kept saying you joined and left... Other human beings kept popping into the game, so I figured you would too.

And it wasn't a robot voice, it was custom. I rarely use the robot voice. I just picked the deepest darkest... dankest... and other words like that... Because I wanted to sound like the planet.

Apu?? That wasn't Apu! It wasn't even remotely Indian-like! Oy. I was imitating this Central American friend that I have. Geez, I guess they're all the same to you. :shake:

My Meatwad is pretty good, or at least inside my head it is. GR has heard it before so he could probably be a better judge of it, especially since everything on Live sounds so distorted.

I can't join a match while you're racing. You have to start another race if you want someone else to join in.

*ahem* X-Box Live - Great Rumbler - 4th November 2003

Squirrely!!

*ahem* X-Box Live - OB1 - 4th November 2003

Thanks for answering the question. Rolleyes
