The Longest Journey 2 announced! - A Black Falcon - 27th February 2003

No details yet... but seeing a sequel to the best adventure game released in the past 4 years is great!

Quote:The Longest Journey is considered a true classic within the adventure genre, and has attracted a huge following world-wide. It was voted Adventure Game of the Year 2000 by both PC Gamer and Computer Gaming World, and received numerous similar awards and a large number of rave reviews.

"Hundreds of thousands of players worldwide have wondered when the next chapter in The Longest Journey would come out." says Trond Aas. "For years, both gaming media and fans have requested this sequel, and we recognize that they deserve to get the next chapter of the saga." Early this week the concept was approved, and key members of the original game are already hard at work with the sequel.

We get it, we get it -- you hate adventure games... haven't you proven that enough yet?

Haha, I'm only kidding. I like Grim Fandango and the Monkey Islands.

The sad thing is, I made this thread three years ago, and that statement 'best adventure game in the past four years' is now 'best in the last seven years'...

But worry not, we are saved: Dreamfall: The Longest Journey finally came out. And Gamespy gave it a very impressive score... my expectations were somewhat low (the 3d engine is lacking... and action scenes in adventure games can be done badly too easily...), but other than the iffy 3d, it looks great. There is still nothing that compares with Lucasarts' 1985-2001 adventure game production period, of course, but even just one great adventure game is better than none... and none is what we've had since the last The Longest Journey came out.

A lower score from Gamespot, but similar praise for the story...

I just wonder if we'll have to wait another 5 1/2 years until we get the next adventure game of this quality. It is unfortunate that the game is easier and shorter than TLJ (30 hours versus 10 hours is what I've heard...), but even so, it looks great.

My mother has been searching everywhere for this game. I myself still haven't finished the first one, so I can wait.

I have to wait, because I don't have an Xbox and my PC won't run it, but oh well... I will get it eventually. I didn't get TLJ1 for like a year or two after it came out... but despite its few flaws (though it probably is much more normal for a graphic adventure to be this length... Mystlikes are often longer, because of the puzzle challenge, but Lucasarts/Sierra-styled ones, like the TLJ games, or often shorter... but TLJ1 was quite long. Even so, it's a bit dissapointing in comparison...), it sounds like a really, really great game. With a lot of the credit certainly going on Tornquist...
