Xbox 360 Launch: Success or Mess? - Paco - 31st December 2005

I think the PS3 will be $400. That could sell very well if Sony can convince people they want Blu-Ray capability and that their console has better graphics (or is more powerful, people will buy into it even if they can't see it, or only a marginal difference) than the 360 or Revolution. Then again, I wonder what a $300 Premium 360 with second generation titles would do to the PS3, or a $200-250 core (assuming there is a price drop next year)?

Also, given the DS's significant lead over the PSP in Japan I wonder how much a cheaper (and innovative) Revolution will appeal over a pricey PS3? I think it's entirely possible that Nintendo can achieve number one in Japan or at least enjoy as much success as the PS3.

I don't know, I really hope that they each find their respective audiences and make the industry grow. We'll see.

I'm assuming the PS3 will hit at over 300, i'm thinking actually of a 400 mark or more with one controller and maybe a demo disk. The thing is though, even at 500 for a system and 60 bucks for a video game it will still sell out very quickly because it will be the same 'hard to find' marketing that will generate alot of interest in a quick spurt (especially around Christmas)

Revolution (graphics a side) will have to deal with the idea of being the cheapest system. If Revo is cheaper and easier to get a hold of, it will not be as popular; even if the graphics are better than PS3. People are just idiots like that. But a major game (TP) will counter that.

I think 360 will do really well (in America, europe) as long as people can pick up Halo 3 by the time Rev and PS3 is an option. Once Halo 3 hits (as long as it isnt krap) it will add atleast 3 years of very strong life to 360 meaning that rev and PS3 will then have to find a killer app to combat it. I'm not worried about rev finding a killer app, but a killer app that teenagers want is different... SSB, MP3, they could do it. Sony will focus on Final Fantasy and MGS, but Halo is a completely American franchise, so I expect it to do really really well here.
